steve harrigon is live in mississippi with the latest. what's going on there, steve? >> reporter: tori, the crest here is still about ten days away but it's rising at about two or two and a half feet a day. these houses have about six or seven feet of water in them. some of the houses around here are completely covered. the situation is likely to keep getting worse. there are real concerns that some of the highways can be covered with water really blocking off entire sections of the city. the farmers are already declaring complete losses. so the water is steady -- steadily rising and we've been see sag -- we've been seeing people walk down to see how much it's risen to. people are trying to pull out what they can from their houses by walking through the water or taking boats out to salvage what they can. >> all right. steve, what are people doing to leave the area? what are some officials doing to avoid another katrina-like disaster? >> reporter: well, all of these houses right around me here have already been evacuated. there's just one man left holding federal at th
