i commend the mta for its work. it is critical that these shuttles continue to exist. in particular i really want to emphasize the importance of routes and stop coordination, making sure -- we should not be regulating these things to death. but right now there is very little coordination. to the extent that the mta can work with those provided to coordinate those shuttles, it would be great for stop coordination. we also need to make sure that most of the shuttles -- not all of them, but most of them are not labeled. i have constituents about -- concerned about shuttles that are not labelled and they had no idea what it was. so, there needs to be an easy way for people to access and to know if there is an issue, which show it is and be able to call one person and interface with that person without the supervisor's office doing random research. in terms of bus stops, i think that it would be a mistake to start creating new buses sounds or extending bus zones for corporate shuttles. i think that that would go over like a lead balloon in terms of removing the significant

i would also like the mta to continue making bike improvements. we have seen nearly a 60% increase in the number of people riding their bikes over the past a few years, and the new director should continue the positive trend. finally, the mta should encourage adoption of electric vehicles. as you may have already heard, i myself am now writing in a wonderful chevy -- riding in a wonderful chevy volt. i hope the mta will stay focused on increasing the ev infrastructure for this city. that is quite a bit for an mta board and directed to do, and i want to share with you that as i assist in my role to review with the mta board who they will select, there are a couple of very strong themes that, across -- that come across. we need to have not only a visionary, but we also need to make sure that there is a team approach. there is not just one person that can lead the mta. it has got to be a very dedicated team. i also want to make sure that the person exhibits a high level of collaboration. even the on-time performance is not just muni alone. it has to

i am on the board of the mta, and i am thrilled to be here. i love this city and bike to work day is like christmas for all of us. the sfmta is at the forefront of providing support for this event. a lot of the speakers have mentioned the green by claims, improvements, park lit, thing that make our city more livable. so i want to thank the staff of the mta. i see a lot of you out there now. just to hear the support from the board of supervisors and know that the board of supervisors and mta is on the same page. the sustainable streets group, you are doing such great work, and i am proud to support it. the chairman of our board is here. he rode in with mayor lee. i rode in with supervisor wiener's group, from the castro. i want to mention the fact that there was a 58% increase in the city in the last four years. that is an impressive number, but even more when you put it in context. could we have handled a 58% increase for muni writers? 58% increase in car traffic during rush hour? no one would be going anywhere. this is a lesson to us. we have

right now, the mta has someone dedicated to that. i just wanted to make sure that we move in that direction, and making sure that shuttles are easily identified all, what company it is. my second point is, i know that tour buses were also part of this discussion. i said this in plans and programs, and i will reiterate. it is important that we not lump corporate troubles in with for buses. corporate shuttles do not have nearly the same kind of negative impact that we have seen from some of the tour buses. i just want to remind people, and these are separate issues in a lot of ways. >> commissioner weiner, i think we heard from commissioner farrell as well about the issue on shuttles. i would go back to the earlier discussion we had about the need for some sort of structure so we can make sense of those relationships. having the capability, as you said, in the city, in the mta, to deal with it -- and frankly, for you to refer about your own office, constituents complaining -- to give you rhyme or reason for why things are happening. no

this would fund the mta's version of the project. the scope of work includes a new boarding area, accessible key stop on san jose between geneva and ocean. it is the circle on the far right. it also has associated 8 curb ramps with that element of work. there is also utility pole relocation and demolishing of an existing key stop, which is the center most circle. that work will be done once bart has completed its portion of work and constructed a new platform. the larger east side connection project is a joint effort, as i said. bart's improvements include its ability to the west side station will quite entrance project. this is recently completed scope of work. this will also include a new canopy over the bridge walkway, as well as a new bridge path to a new station access entrance, as well as other excess of the improvements. the scope of work for the key stop on san jose will be constructed as part of the green track replacement project. we anticipate a were to be completed by mid-2012. work will put it this fall with construction

before we do that, we are going in here to discuss the mta director position. i want the public to know the efforts we have made to solicit input from the community, we received, we sent out a survey it and had over 600 respondents from all over the city. we talk to the citizens' advisory committee and ask them for their input. they had a vigorous response and we appreciate that. also, the many groups we work with, the bike coalition, walked san francisco, senior advocates and the advocates for the disabled, members of the board of supervisors, the transportation authority, we have sought as widely as we could the inputs and i had a meeting with the senior staff recently and i want to tell you that this agency is extremely well served by the intelligence and professionalism of our senior staff. there are about 40 or 50 people there and everyone offered what i thought were very responsible -- responsible and thoughtful comments. we have done a great deal about reached on this and now calls for us -- falls to us to do the next debt. i wanted that to be known to t
