is this the republican party that you expected to be courting? >> i've always been a constant republican. i've worked for three republican presidents. i haven't varied or wavered. the republican party as a backdrop is going to change every now and again. we've had abraham lincoln's party. we've had teddy roosevelt's party. we've had eisenhower's party, nixon's party, reagan's party and beyond. it is always remaking itself based upon leadership and we don't have a whole lot of leadership right now today and i think that's part of the problem. so you get the ron paul foreign policy based on complete isolationism, you get the mitt romney foreign policy based upon the cold war mentality. i'm not sure either one of them is the way forward and that's the reason this selection is so critically important, not only for the high stakes for the american people but for the definition of the republican party going forward. >> there is a saying there is no greater burden than high expectations. do you feel frustrated at all? >> no. because all you can do is yo

he creates a republican party. he's looking to create a republican party not that looks like j.c. watts annuity gingrich but one that looks like heaven. we'll have red, yellow, brown, black and white in heaven. i don't see that in mitt romney or ron paul or the other canned dates... candidates that i paid close attention to snb why do you think that his campaign now seems to have cratered after, i mean, he suddenly zoomed to the top. he was the frontrunner out there in iowa. now he's dropped 15 or 20 points and he's down there running fourth. in the second tier. what happened? >> well, bob, you said it at the outset. you've had almost 50% of the negative ads in iowa run against newt gingrich. almost 9, 10 million dollars. but the fact that he even registered... that he still registers considering the negative ads that he's had run against him i think shows his stability, shows his strength. i think the polls... i think you'll see that it's still pretty fluid. i'd say newt... i've seen polls just in the last 48 to 72 hours that has him either tied for first or fourth. so it's still

it's not like the republican party was evolving from a previous position of strength. in 2008 before the john ensign scandal broke, the nevada republican party was forced to cancel their annual state convention. they decided to can sell the convention and hold a conference call instead, nevada republicans citing a lack of interest. so they didn't hold it. a year later the john ensign scandal unfolded, the most prominent republican in the state except for the state's republican governor, who was at the time, also having his own scandal. nevada's governor jim gibbons left office in 2011, in the wake of allegations that among other things he too was engaged in an extramarital affair. then in the midst of all that, in the midst of the gibbons scandal and ensign zscandal, th anoinlted establishment candidate to run against harry reid, best chance they are ever going have to unseat the senate majority leader, their candidate would be sue loudon. remember her? >>> before we all started having health care in the olden days, our grandparents would bring a chicken to the doctor.
