gwen: we promised we would talk about hillary clinton's testimony. there was a lot of talk about the emotion and yelling and it was very watchable. but i guess the question after the hearing was over i wondered is whether she answered the questions. do we know what happened and why it happened in the end? not who w.h.o. said what after the fact but what happened leading up to it? >> i think my biggest memory from there other then the drama of that is that hillary clinton basically said look, i didn't read those cables. i didn't know they asked for more security. if you look specifically at what happened, there's an accountability review board. they looked at this. they already, the state department has implemented all of these changes and hillary clinton said, we're going to keep doing that. they relieved four people from their jobs but those people are really somewhere else in the state department. so i think it's something we really have to wait and see what's changed. i think there really is more to learn here. >> martha, what is the answer to the

i think hillary clinton has a lot of things to think over. she has a well-deserved break ahead of her. and what's great about hillary clinton is that whether she decides in the next few months or in a year or in a year and a half, she's going to be a strong candidate regardless. she's going to be able to raise money. she's obviously incredibly well known, polls show she's incredibly well liked. and by contrast, when you look at candidate who is start much later, who don't have that national profile, that late start, they can't ever get off the ground. whether it's rick perry or jon huntsman, they just can't ever get there. so regardless of the timeline, i think clinton is going to be incredibly strong position. >> speaking of who has a national profile, of course, it's not all about hillary clinton. joe biden has been building his brand. there has been a lot written about this. he's spearheading the president's gun violence task force. he did help close the deal on the fiscal cliff debate. now, his poll numbers aren't quite as high as hillary

jon: let's talk a little bit about hillary clinton and her testimony yesterday. you have suggested that some of the senators, some of the members of congress who were questioning her sort of missed the point. >> well, there were -- the poor woman, she did do a full day up on capitol hill, and she was certainly very well prepared. the problem was she wasn't well prepared to talk about what happened. she was more well prepared to talk about the aftermath. and, of course, we all know what the aftermath is. what we want to know is how did the administration let this happen, why did the president of the united states and mrs. clinton and u.n. ambassador susan rice and the white house spokesman carney all lie to the american people for a week about the fact that this attack was caused in libya by some movie? jon: well, and when she, you know, pounded her fists on the tables and said, you know, what does it matter what the source of in this unpleasantness was, the protests, it sort of seemed to miss the point that, you know, a couple of those security officers died perh
