ali velshi, what impact have wen see on energy prices in the aftermath? >> immediately after the announcement on saturday night, it was down slightly in trading. oil settled at $94 and $0.09. by the way, tony, i say settled because it never stops trading. we pick a time in the afternoon, 2:30 eastern, called the settle time. now, despite the fact oil's down despite the fact that no additional iranian crude oil has hit the market yet. this happens. this is speculative. it's in anticipation of what's going to happen. iran has the fourth largest oil reserves behind venzuela, saudi arabia and canada. any let-up on the sanctions that have blocked the current tree's oil exports will end up blood boosting supply and could push prices lower in the coming months. you have seen it on oil prices. you will probably start to see it in gas prices. >> explain that to me. what might be the impact on gas prices? >> all right. so the national average for a gallon of self-serve unleaded is three bucks and $0.28. that actually is pretty low compared to what we have seen, dow

i asked ali velshi whether these consistent gains on wall street are turning into big profits on main street? >> not necessarily because we really are in this by fur indicated economy. you have those that have their money in the stock market or the housing market which meant they had some money to get these kind of gains. stock markets up almost 30%, the housing market up 13% gains over last year in most markets. so you have this group of people who have money, and they are going to spending. and then you have the other side where people are more worried about their employment future than have been in a very long time. the problem david is if retailers are confused they are going to bet that people will stay home a little bit, which means good news for consumers is they will get promotional earlier. and some sales are all right starting many kicks off almost a week earlier than they would have on black friday ali how would you describe the economy right now? >> bifurcated. america took pride for decades in not being a bifurcated economy. where the bulk of it was in the middle. the asp

ali velshi will have more on that at the top of the hour for his program at 7:00 eastern. >> reporter: let's talk about he corn. corn farmers are bracing for a tough 2014. the epa proposed cutting the amount of corn-based ethanol blended into gasoline that americans use to fuel up at the pump. a fuel like that will likely push the price of corn down further and hurt farmers' bottom line. in the past six years corn farmers benefited from rising food exports to developing and emerging countries, low interest rates, and the government-backed drive to produce biofuels. an unprecedented million acres of u.s. farmland is now planted with corn, and farmers just harvested their biggest corn crop ever. but that glut in the grain market already corn price versus fallen from a peak that topped $7 a bushel in 2012 to half of that now. corn and grain prices shot up in part because of a drought. drought or not the downward trend is clear. up until now farmers have been able to depend on a system of direct payments from the federal government that act as a safety net. in the new farm bill currently
