just think about somebody in that congested area of chelsea. i've been on those streets. we know how tight everything is there. there's not much room to test something, so that would concern me. really nypd and fdny and the bomb squad, they've got to get in there and find out the cause of that. it's not out of the realm of possibilities that somebody has thrown a tank in there two weeks ago improperly, a propane tank. it slowly leaked. somebody tossed a cigarette in there. you can't positively say this is a homemade bomb or ied. you have to get in there. you have to dig through all that junk. it's the unglamorous life of the bomb squad and the bomb investigators to do that, to find out, to find the pieces. if it is someone testing just a mixture, you know, that may just be a bag of explosives, a plastic bag filled with the explosives or some kind of cardboard container, and there may not be a lot of material to find. that would trouble me the most because then you would be trying to test the residue to see exactly what it was that was in there. >> if you're just joining u

this is the one saturday night, chelsea neighborhood, downtown manhattan, 29 people were hurt in the blast. you see just glass, you know, windows, cars, businesses, shattered. just a couple blocks away there was another pressure cooker sort of device that was found. that never went off. rahami is also being questioned to possible ties to other improvised bombs. a blast that happened at the start of a charity race in seaside park, new jersey, on saturday, which didn't begin on time, thank goodness, because of issues with registration. then you have these five pipe boms that were found in a train station overnight. one of those devices inadvertently detonated by a bomb squad robot. now police want to know if rahami built these bombs himself, and perhaps most urgently if, in fact, he acted alone or if he had help. let's begin our coverage with jean casarez at the scene of the capture in linden. jean, i know there was a fingerprint that led to the i.d. of this man and then the be on the lookout. tell me about the man who saw this guy at asleep at a bar because he had been watching cnn. >

you can see behind me much of this neighborhood is still shut down in chelsea. filled with slhrapnel and blew p in a heavily traffic street four blocks from where i'm standing. surveillance footage shows the bomb shattering the doors of a new york city fitness center and causing panic on the street. you felt the explosion in the car? >> absolutely. >> reporter: what did it feel like? >> massive shock wave. like your whole body shook. >> reporter: investigators say the pressure cooker bomb detonated near a dumpster. it contained shrapnel, including ball bearings and a cell phone police used bomb sniffing dogs to comb the neighborhood following the saturday night explosion. 29 people were injured and taken to the hospital. hours after the blast, police discovered a similar undetonated device four blocks away. >> i think it was right over here. >> reporter: jane schribner of her apartment in chelsea. cbs news do not verify her account. >> it was wires coming out. a pressure cooker thing. >> reporter: early on saturday, a pipe bomb exploded along the course of a mar

after the blast wept off in a crowded manhattan neighborhood of chelsea. the video is from a nearby fitness center. it shows the moment that the blast went off. you see people trying to get to safety. immediately after that blast went off. officials also found a second device a few blocks device. it appears to be some sort of pressure cooker with a cell phone and dark wiring attached to it. they haven't said what is inside of the device. we want to go over to amaka ubaka with all the details. >> reporter: right now officials are frantically searching for the suspect hoping video from some of the area businesses can help. this is video of some of the victims being helped into ambulances. again a total of 29 people injured in the blast. including one person who was said to have a s everyone else bumps and bruises. police and fire crews say the explosion happened near 23rd street and 6th avenue in the chelsea neighborhood. at least one supermarket in the area. windows in many of the windows blown out by the blast. take a look at the photos. windows of nearby
