disasters in pasco county history. news channel 8's ryan hughes is live this morning. ryan, what is behind the big jump in the estimate for the damages? >> reporter: gene and gayle, good morning to you. the closer the county officials looked, the more places they realized were hit hard by hurricane hermine including this mobile home park here. let's go to video now. this is what part of the county looked like at the height of the flooding. hurricane hermine roared through and dropped several inches of rain. the river overflowed the banks, spilling into neighborhoods. emergency managers put out that high damage estimate for home, more than 300 homes sustained major damage in the storm. one woman told us her house flooded and now it has mold. >> i've got kids that are asthmatic. that's a no-go right there. that right there put the icing on the cake. >> reporter: again, hurricane hermine is considered one of the costliest disasters in county history. leaders plan to apply for state and federal aid. that could take hs long

according to pasco fire rescue.. that explosion knocked out the hospital's air conditioning just before six p-m tuesday. this happened in an area that was under construction and no one was hurt. but the hospital staff feared the a-c would be out for hours. so they started preparig for a full-scale evacuation of all 125 patients. but within minutes, the hospital determined an evacuation ?wasn't necessary. and a little after eight last night...the a-c power was restored. chief is thankful this turned out to be more of a minor inconvenience than a major issue. pasco emergency crews had to deal with something very similar late last month at bayonet point hospital in hudson. they had to evacuate everyone after a lightning strike knocked out case...ambulances were brought in from all over the region to transport dozens of patients, a developing story in pasco county... where deputies are investigating a road rage incident, right outside an elementary school! they say a father drove ?into an elderly volunteer... at the scho

disasters in pasco county history. news channel 8's ryan hughes is live this morning. ryan, what is behind the big jump in the estimate for the damages? >> reporter: gene and gayle, good morning to you. the closer the county officials looked, the more places they realized were hit hard by hurricane hermine including this mobile home park here. let's go to video now. this is what part of the county looked like at the height of the flooding. hurricane hermine roared through and dropped several inches of rain. spilling into neighborhoods. emergency managers put out that high damage estimate for home, businesses and properties. more than 300 homes sustained major damage in the storm. one woman told us her house flooded and now it has mold. >> i've got kids that are asthmatic. that's a no-go right there. that right there put the icing on the cake. >> reporter: again, hurricane hermine is considered one of the costliest disasters in county his. leaders plan to apply for state and federal aid. that could take months if not lo

also new this morning we are working on a utility pole in pasco county. it happened before 9:00 last night. officials say 30-year-old man was working on the 7000 block of fox wood drive when his shoulders made contact with the live wire while climbing that pole. fellow utility workers use the victim's safety belt to lower him to the ground. he was flown to tampa general hospital where he is in critical condition. no word on how he is currently doing right now. developing this morning of fishing turns tragic for a family in polk county. crews are searching for an 18-year-old who disappeared in peace river. it happened at the river's canoe launch and the boat ramp off state road 60. deputies say austin welch was fishing with his sister when she fell in. him and his mother both jumped in. the two females were able to make it out but austin never resurfaced. the sheriff's office is working with fish and wildlife danger is still real for families along the anclote river. families are being evacuated as the river is expected to rise. it is expected to peak this
