let's start with samsung. obviously this note 7 debacle has become much more serious than we thought initially. where do we stand at this point? >> it's kind of surprising. i thought we were past the -- past this. samsung said they would come out with a replacement program and they came out with a replacement program towards the end of september. it came together quickly, we noticed, so within a two week period they were issuing new models and software updates, but it did not seem like they put the time into understand the problem. here we are, and a southwest flight was delayed earlier this week because someone claims that their note 7 exploded or was catching fire or smoking before the flight. but the wrinkle there is that this is one of the replacement units. so, it's -- emily: what has samsung said about this? >> they have not said much. they have said they are still investigating the problem. they are investigating whether this was actually a replacement model, and they have not come out and admitted it y

yousef: peter, how does this affect the rest of samsung? >> the reason it will not have an effect for samsung is because the phone business buys components from many different units within samsung, the display business, the chips business. other parts of samsung feed into the phone business, and that has been their marquee product over the past few years. it has helped drive their share price to a record high so far. now they need to dig into what exactly went wrong. they are trying to investigate what happened with this battery, especially because they recalled the phones run -- recall the phones once come up with the again, and continued to have problems. reaction are we seeing from investors? shares are up-to-date. investors are hoping this is the beginning of the end for this crisis, that now the company has put an estimated cost on it. this is just for the third quarter, though. they put out a elementary estimate just a week ago, and they came out and that they would cut it i have dramatic amount. investors are hoping this is the begin

we see the disaster samsung is facing with its samsung note 7. as an investor, managing money, how does one preempt and act after such one off events? >> it is very difficult for any investor if you want to anticipate the unsuccessful action of a product. as an investor, it is important to put things into context. this morning, tension is sinking. when you look at the numbers the note 7 is doing for them, which is less than 10% of their profit, there is an element of cleaning the books there. this is where we have the opportunity for portfolio managers. we are in an environment where we don't have long-lasting trends. we are in this environment where growth is sluggish still. the opportunity for us is when volatility spikes. his is when you -- this is when you can take advantage of these very sharp movements. as far as samsung is concerned, obviously, people need to do their homework, studying how much they damaged their brand, but i would argue samsung is a very stable company. is a very cheap stock. that is what you have to keep in mind. guy: d
