news in the east bay tonight where a search and rescue effort is under way after a car went into the alameda creek. >> marianne favro live near the scene with the latest on the effort to get the car out of the water and the search for that driver. >> reporter: terry, around 11:30 yesterday morning a woman crashed her car here into alameda creek. at that time yesterday rescue crews were not able to find her car and the 18-year-old woman who was driving it is still missing. if you look at how rapidly the water is moving right now and the unpredictable current, first responders simply can go in there to search for her because it's too dangerous. in addition, there is a mud slide that has shut down niles canyon road, and that is also hampering any rescue efforts. the sheriff's department is also working with the state water resource agency to reduce the amount of water flowing into this creek, but until it's safe, here at alameda creek, first responders say they simply cannot go. but they tell me that they are hoping to send in dive teams as soon as the conditions here improve. reporting live in

a vehicle recovery team pulled a car from alameda creek near fremont. the 27-year-old driver was able to swim to safety after he fell asleep and veered off the highway thursday morning. but 200 searchers continued to look for 18-year-old jada jenkins, a week after her car went into the creek in the same spot. half of them are friends and family members. >> we want to bring answers and closure, whatever it may be, we want to do whatever we need to do in this effort to bring their daughter home. >> jada's dad is holding out hope she's still alive. >> she always takes this road, pretty much. >> reporter: but jcj jenkins says the curve that jada and the other driver missed is a tricky one that catches drivers off guard. as search and rescue crews recover the second car, jada jenkins' family wonders if there should be changes to the road. >> there probably should be a lot of concern about getting a guardrail or some sort of restraint in that area. just so this doesn't happen to anybody else's family. >> and nbc bay area has obtained a caltrans study that sho

after receiving reports of heavy smoke and fire, alameda fire cpt. jim colburn said. responding fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control within about 10 minutes of arrival, but not before the restaurant sustained significant fire damage, according to colburn. "the restaurant will need some work before they can open back up for business," colburn said. his car as you take a look is still here in alameda creek. the water simply too high for crews to retrieve it. this morning's accident happened around 5:00 in the morning. a solo car accident that sent one car into the water. alameda county crews searched the water and they did find one man. again, the driver of that car. now, what we're hearing happened is that the accident happened, the drive was able to get out of his car, make it to the shore. he was picked up by another car and then taken to a nearby 7- eleven where an ambulance was able to take him to the hospital to be checked out. this all again very similar to an accident that happened in the same area less than a week ago. >> this road is a dangerous road. there is slow sharp corners out there that people underestimate and go too quickly. so i think it's a combination of that, slick roads, in the morning, it was dark. so i think with all of those put together, it made it, you know, a bad spot. >> reporter: now, if all of this sounds familiar, that's because it was just saturday when

deputies received a calling that a silver honda hat plunged into alameda creek. dublin chp said the driver was an 18-year-old woman from tracy. they say her car crossed over the double yellow lines and hit another car before falling into the creek. >> a second witness said they saw the car in the creek, going down the creek before it became fully submerged by the time we got there. >> the car for the woman have been located. er is is ofs have. relying mainly on drones and help comers to try and find them. authorities say the water level and the current have just been too strong for drivers to get into the water for a recovery effort. they have been working first the state water resource agency to reduce how much water is being released into the creek. crew are going to come here, and look around to determine to see is that current too strong. back out here live, it does look like it's flowing pretty good, so we're not sure what they're going to decide, but the plan was to have is divers go in the water and try to hobby the victim. back to 0 to you. >> the weekend

it is upside-down right now in alameda creek. they haven't been able to get into the water because yesterday the water level was very high and too dangerous to get in. it has gone down significantly. as i mentioned the car is upside-down in alameda creek. and the hope is that the young woman who was driving the car still inside the car. the swift water rescue team will be putting up safety ropes. they will be put up across the creek. then they will turn the car over and pull it out. we're told that the family of the female will be watching the recovery effort. authorities say she collided with another car on saturday morning and her car careened into the water. she was 18 years old and on her way from tracy to visit family in menlo park at the time of the accident. we're also told she attended william jessup university and had dreams of becoming a social worker. we're told that the water is two, two and a half feet deep. it was actually found, the car, about 100 yards away from where it initially went into the water over the week

jada jenkins was on the way to visit friends when her car plunged into alameda creek. we have more now on today's push to kind the young woman. -- find the young woman. >> reporter: crews began showing up at dawn. shutting down niles canyon road between fremont and sunol for most of the day. >> what that morning is all about is recovery effort for jada jenkins who was traveling along this road on january 21st. >> reporter: investigators say 18-year-old jenkins was driving along niles canyon road saturday when her car collided with another car and plunged into the water. it was recovered over the course of the week and while crews found her shoes and even the driver's license, there's been no sign of jenkins since the crash. crews today divided the area along the alameda creek up into a grid and began searching. >> we have over 100 search and rescue personnel over ten cadaver dogs that are trained to just sniff different scents. we'll have drones, we'll have a helicopter. we'll have an airplane. it's -- a regional effort. >> reporter: teams say this massive effort has o

good afternoon, it is tuesday, january 31st, let's get right to kiet do who is live in hayward where alameda county sheriff's deputies are helping in that search. >> this guy is either really brave or really crazy, perhaps a little bit of both. we're live right here on a street in hayward. up there is 880. that's pretty much where it all happened. chopper 5 was over the scene shortly after the inmate popped open the door to the honda civic rental car that the deputies were using to transport him this morning. the sheriff's deputies from kentucky were driving in stop- and-go traffic in the far right lane of 880 southbound near a street. he somehow opened the back door and made a run for it. he was handcuffed in the back last seen running in a southbound direction across the opposite direction of the freeway. it is not clear what security measures the kentucky deputies had in place besides those handcuffs. the honda civic was a normal rental car. alameda county sheriff's deputies are helping with the search and asking the public to keep their eyes peeled. >> if anyone sees him or anyone that l
