cloverdale citrus fair, sonoma valley high school, petaluma and healdsburg and the fairgrounds. we have that list at www.nbcbayarea.com. >> pete suratos is where there are new evacuations coming up. pete? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, marcus. we are here in fairfield in solano county at the costco off green valley road. as i mentioned, essentially, you had different law enforcement meeting in this area before they carried out the evacuations, telling people to evacuate in this area. now, what i want to do is pull up a map showing where those evacuations took place. they evacuated people just north of rockville road and upper and west part of green valley road. that's the main area where they were carrying out those evacuations. they were doing that last night, going door-to-door, telling them to leave the area. the fire is on the border of napa and solano county. that is at the ridge area. at the top of the show, we showed that orange glow from the ridge area. that is where that fire is. that's a concern that it could go over that ridge and affect folks on this side. right no

geyserville is just north of healdsburg and you can see the fire burning here behind me in what's known as the maya cama mountain range. the winds are increasing overnight. the pocket fire was 4,000 acres but probably grown overnight. it could move this way. we'll learn more about the behavior overnight at first light when cal fire gets a closer look with a chopper in the sky to get a better look. new evacuations were called at 10 p.m. including red rock casino in geyserville. fire is burning northeast of geyserville and firefighters have been working to prevent it from moving into town. >> there's homes at the bottom of the canyon and the ridge behind me. that's what we're doing. we don't have the resources to be really effective at the stopping of the forward spread of the fire. >> they dropped fire retardant from the air and hand crews and dozers have constructing a line to hold it back but it's difficult to do the aerial drops. low visibility with all of the smoke in the air. and another good sign though here where i am, which is in between 101 that way and downtown geyserville that

oakland hills winds 54 miles per hour this morning, healdsburg, santa rosa, napa, piedmont, really windy in the hills where this fire exploded. there's a super strong ridge of high pressure. this happens when it gets cold. it pushes the wind from the center of high pressure towards the coastline, a northeast to southwest offshore wind. it was super strong overnight with the strongest concentration of those winds, 50 miles per hour or more. strongest winds in the north bay mountains took the small fires and made them huge fires. as for where the winds are right now, two things have happened, one, they've diminished in intensity, wonderful news, two, they've flipped onshore. it's now coming from the south and west. this may gradually improve the air quality in san francisco and oakland as the smoke is carried in the other direction. that said unhealthy air quality continues in the north bay, city of san francisco, central bay and along the coastline. you've been dealing with smoke all day. the red flag warning expires at 5 a.m. tomorrow, but high fire danger continues in any of our mountai

a north wind in healdsburg. windsor, in northwest wind. look at cloverdale. two observations. one has in east and southeast wind. the other has a north wind and 45% humidity. 30s, 40s and 50s for the temperatures. we are down about 20 degrees compared to yesterday for some. napa airport and feel field still show a slight north wind. the fog is trying to work its way up the coast and has on parts of the mendocino coast. we will end up with 60s and 70s and a few low 80s today. >>> we do have problems in fire areas. highway 101 and 37 are open but there are a lot of detours. i want to mention a lot of the closures are on off ramps from highway 101. mendocino and centennial river. old redwood highway is closed. highway 128 at kill road. i would not recommend. there are too many detours. if you know your way around the area, you could go if you have to but be prepared. there will be a lot of closures. highway five 80 westbound at the richmond bridge toll plaza. they are clearing an injury accident from the two left lanes. there is a bigger backup than normal approaching the richmon
