this is a look at sfo. where we have seen some delays due to at the time smoke and the haze and the low visibility. so that could be a factor once again for today. san francisco holding out at 48 this morning and slipping to the freezing mark there in santa rosa. definitely will need the jacket. 46 in oakland and upper 30s in livermore and san jose, 45. low and mid-level clouds this morning. and the temperatures are up in many spots and a little color in nevada. napa reporting 7 degrees warmer and san jose by three. the cloud cover helps to offset the cooling in the overnight hours. this is a look at the air quality right now. it is unhealthy for the east bay and areas over san francisco and the coast. a little further south and a little more moderate unhealthy for sensitive groups. we'll remain unhealthy for sensitive groups and upper 60s and low 70s in the forecast. not much change moving forward. and we're expecting a bit of an onshore breeze late in the week. that will help to clean up the air. i'll hav

we anticipate about 80,000 travelers, departing sfo today. definitely a busy travel day. >> reporter: now at sfo this afternoon and evening, it's been pretty smooth sailing. there is small delays for arrivals and departures and they expect it to get busy around 9:00 tonight. arrive an hour and a half for a domestic flight and during the holidays, give yourself two hours. this holiday season is expected to be the busiest on record. the agency estimates some 25 million people will fly from november 16th through the 26th. the busiest of those days is today. the sunday following thanksgiving, tsa estimates more than 2.7 million passengers will fly, a chunk of those people will be traveling to and from the bay area and fortunately, we have clear skies tonight. again, there is a blizzard warning for chicago tonight and we know that is a major hub for travel out of the midwest, so check with your carrier about flight delays and if you're already planning your travel for the next holiday season, here is an insider tip. thanksgiving day is actually th

sfo is on the border. so there are some area that's a -- areas that has some air quality advisory continues. and once we get the southwest wind, that will really start to scour things out. that is where it is really dry. so far, most locations are in the unhealthy category. we neat to juice things up here. it will take a while. but the system will be here tomorrow morning. the projected rainfall north. golden gate looks pretty good. and we'll have to watch a lot of burn scars from the two systems. the sierra also looks really good. there will be some rain in the south. the second system favors the areas on the golden gate. winter storm watch for the mountains. and the snow level with the southeast wind in advance of that, it will go away. by late wednesday early thursday, it will be below lake level. so i would not be surprised if there are pockets in the pass. there is a good cold air support back here. but the first system come through this long stretch of dry weather it does slow down. some of that warm

take a look at sfo now in recent days sfo has had delays because of low visibility due to smoke and haze. that could be the case once again for today. we have low 40s in santa rosa. livermore at 46, san jose at 50 and oakland at 53. in addition to the smoke and haze we have the cloud cover in place. these clouds coming in from the north of us. those clouds not going to result into any rain unfortunately. and our winds are expected to remain light. we have a north breeze in napa. a south freeze in oakland. if you take a look at the arrows underneath those numbers the flow has not changed. we're looking at unhealthy to really unhealthy air in many spots. this is what we're seeing right now. areas in the souther earn edge of the peninsula over areas of the south bay. reporting moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups. we're going to be unhealthy in the north bay, central bay. along the coastline. in the santa clara valley perhaps unhealthy for our sensitive groups. either way it's not going to be safe going indoors. by the end of the week we're hoping to get more of an on shore breeze. th

now the smoggy skies are also causing problems at sfo. so smoky. airport spokesperson says about 10% of the flights are running late. and at this hour there's a 30-minute delay for incoming flights. today, though, alaska airlines, a flight from there was diverted from sfo to sjc because the smoke was just too thick. the pilot told passengers ahead of time, though, when they left salt lake city. now, in san jose all of those passengers were then bused back to sfo. >> not just people and not just airplanes but the smoke from the fires also has san francisco animal care and control taking extra steps to protect the shelter animals. it's shortened dog walks to protect them from the smoke. dogs can be sensitive to this air quality. >> we encourage everybody in the public if you've got a dog, particularly if you have one of those flat-nosed breeds, the pugs, the bulldogs, really limit your outdoor time. short walks, keep hem indoors as much as possible. you're seeing signs of respiratory distress contact your vet and get your dog in right away. >> animal
