maricopa county. phoenix metro area, the suburbs. again, we wait to see where this is going to land because there are still, you know -- i'm seeing after this last update we just gave you, 23,000, i believe, mail. there are still tens of thousands of votes to be counted in maricopa county. this is going to tighten to get trump over the top here in maricopa county, it seems unlikely. but, yeah, that's the change. in 2016 donald trump won maricopa county by three. i think he's on pace to fall a point short give or take in maricopa county right now some of that's your swing. that's the same story in the 2018 midterms. remember they picked up the senate seat in arizona. they made their gains in maricopa county. it's a sprawling gigantic metro area. it's where they think they have the most potential for gains in the trump era, and that's what you're seeing there. >> you know, willie, there were so many changes that were going to take place. some missed mark. i will say a "new york times" article written on maricopa county a couple of week

we're going it get maricopa county, we're going to get another big batch of votes from maricopa county. this is, again, is, like, 60%, maybe a little bit more, of the state population. phoenix, phoenix metro area. and this is where hundreds of thousands of votes remain here. that's the clear majority of the votes that are to come statewide. we have seen as we wait this maricopa report which we think will come about 9:00 eastern, a lot of the other counties in arizona have released reports of their own and the net effect has been to trump's benefit. he's brought down joe biden's lead another 11,000 votes in arizona. so biden now leads statewide in arizona by 56,000 votes. and so, again, that trend, the key here had been, we said, with the votes remaining statewide, okay, trump needed to be winning those by at roughly a 59% rate, if he was going to have a chance to erase all of joe biden's lead. the net effect i can tell you of the votes that we've gotten this evening from all of the other maricopa counties, the net effect has not been to change that. trump is still on that same pace tha

so we got 75,000 of 400,000-plus out of maricopa county. this pace of 59% for trump, it might change as more ballots are added into here. so let's see. but this at least establishes, i think, up front the possibility here that this third bucket of votes is a trump favorable bucket of votes. and you can see it's already brought him to five points behind in maricopa county. it was ten after the first bucket was reported. it was about six after the same day was cast. and now the first installment of the final batch has made it five. and we can see what has this done to the statewide margin here in arizona? let's scan out there. now it's down to 2.8%, and you see the statewide, that margin there, which was over 90,000, has fallen under 80,000. so there will be more to come here. this is 75,000 out of 400,000 and change. let's see if trump continues to win them at that rate. we knew he has to be getting over 60, i think. it's a little rough here, but i think he's got to be over 60 with this final batch of votes when all is said and done if he's

all eyes will go on that, because as maricopa county goes, so goes arizona. and i got a chance to peek in to this building, and there's bipartisan adjudicators here. let's say you have a ballot, and you put an "x" on the bubble instead of filling it in. the machine kicks it back out, it arrives at the bipartisan adjudicators' table, both a republican and a democrat, they look at the ballot and see if it will be accepted or not. very much a bipartisan effort happening here, all under the watchful eyes of observers. certainly a level of distrust in the crowd, saying count every vote, count every legal vote. we want to make sure this is as transparent as possible, many people echoing the president's words, saying this election will be stolen from them. others saying as long as they can be shown that it was a legal election, they will make peace with joe biden being their president. obviously the large majority of people here are supporters of president trump. they said they'll be back tomorrow, and it will likely remain a tight race. that's why i think all eyes

we had two batches from maricopa county, the big e in arizona. trump is winning those ballots being counted there and there are hundreds of thousands left. he's getting close to 60% of them. if he continues to do that with the remaining ballots in maricopa county and other ballots around the state, we have to see, but if he does, it is possible that donald trump could overtake joe biden and take arizona. so we've got a couple different possibilities in these states. trump has to sweep those states if he's going to win this. we'll see. >> interesting on arizona, too, steve, the trump campaign thinks you mentioned that 60% number, they think it's 58% they have to get depending on where the rest of the vote is, able to turn the state around. you mentioned pennsylvania. maura barrett is watching the vote count as we see the president's lead over joe biden dwindle a little bit. as we came on the air yesterday the president had an 11% lead over joe biden, as we come on the air this morning, that number is now under 3% maura, and there is indication per

now let's just quickly look at maricopa county. there is a difference of 74,000, 51% for joe biden. 47.2% for donald trump. now what's important here is the last time we got a big dump, 75,000 votes from maricopa county, which is the biggest area that we're missing votes from in arizona, still about 300,000 votes missing, donald trump was running at about 59% of the vote, with i was eating into joe biden's lead. he's coming in here at 58%. so the bottom line is he is still coming in stronger in the outstanding votes than joe biden is. this is where the problem comes in, because these are places, maricopa county, this county here where flagstaff is, and this county here, pima county, where tucson is. these are outstanding areas of votes. 46,000 votes outstanding here. 13,000, not that many up here where flagstaff is. but a lot, 294,000 in the maricopa, phoenix area. if donald trump continues to come in at these rates, he is going to eat into the 68,000-point lead that biden has. that is why in arizona, you're seeing protests by trum

there are about 300,000 ballots here in maricopa county. we will see tonight somewhere below the 70,000 mark. they say it is a process that takes time. they want to make sure they do it right. they are saying it is not out of the ordinary and it obviously takes time to get the walk-in, mail-in ballots. that is what they are doing throughout the evening and some point their shift will end and they might have to go outside and see the crowd. we have seen some of them leave. when they did leave they were escorted out by the sheriff's department and were driven away. >> anish: just a couple of seconds remaining and one more question. largely trump supporters outside. what are they demanding? what are they chanting? >> a lot of trump signs and shirts and they are demanding that somebody from the elections division come out and talk to them and tell them that they want to see what is going on because they think the election is being stolen from the president. they also have strong words for some other networks that already called the race. this r

the state of arizona where in last hour we got a new wave of vote from maricopa county. that's in arizona near phoenix that pushed biden's lead down. it was just under 44,000 or right around 44,000. joe biden at 50 even donald trump 48.6. the difference 4377.9. so the biden lead holding in arizona. nevada similarly, we've been getting new vote throughout the day. yesterday and through to today there you see joe biden ahead 49.8, donald trump 48.1. the difference there just over 20,000 votes, guys so a very close race all of this is being watched from wilmington, delaware at biden headquarters i can tell you that they are being very cautious in biden headquarters not to get ahead of this thing but course the transition planning now has been going on for several months and what i'm told is that in terms of the economic team for joe biden, if he's to win this, we don't expect to see the biden team announcing economic figures, treasury secretary national economic council director right off the bat we expect that might come closer to december and they are looking at biden hea

conservative voters in an effort to maybe offset some of the deficits she expects to see in the outskirts of maricopa county, the communities around phoenix and the communities around tucson where she's from. she faces mark kelly, who is a democrat. he's a retired nasa astronaut. he's married to former congressman gabrielle giffords, who survived a mass shooting in 2011. and he's done a lot of work in the gun activism role and he's really well known nationally for his work on that issue. he's been leading the race in every single well-ranked poll over the last several months. the race does appear to be tightening. but we'll find out what happens

>> that's the folks in maricopa county, arizona, chanting count the vote. and they're right. pennsylvania is the state with the most electoral votes still undecided in the race. nbc news characterizing the race as too close to call. the president's lead has been steadily tightening. without pennsylvania, president trump has one less path to re-election. with it, joe biden would become the president-elect. how do thinks look in pennsylvania? >> they're busy here. it's interesting that you're talking about the horrible numbers around covid, because the concern people had about the coronavirus led to an historic number of mail-in ballots being cast in this state. tonight, on rachel's show, the secretary of state who handles elections told rachel that an overwhelming majority of mail-in ballots will be in on thursday. that's big news, because they were thinking they would need at least until friday to get them in. at this point, they're saying statewide, they have about 736,000 mail ballots to count. and here in philadelphia, it's about 120,000 to count from a democratic strongho

almost half the 300,000 outstanding ballots in maricopa county. it's relatively competitive. joe biden is nar low carrying it now 51-47. and here's the question. you see joe biden with a lead here. so if if we get 140,000 more today is it relatively unilaterally matched like this, but the president did narrow the lead. when you look at this and think joe biden's going to build, we don't know that. remember if you go back in time donald trump carried maricopa county four years ago. the suburbs have revolted against this president and some places here. if they get 140,000 today, that's about half. won't get you in the finish line but give you direction. >> of the 300,000 or so uncounted ballots so far, how many are like the mail-in ballots as opposed to the day of ballots? >> we don't have anymore day of ballots except for provisionals being counted right now. all the ballots being counted right now are the ones dropped off monday or tuesday. >> 300,000 in maricopa county. where else -- what about pima county? >> pima's got about 46,000 ballots. yum
