but the problem here is senate majority leader chuck schumer is struggling with trying to figure how they are going to do this, whether they try to pass a clean debt ceiling increase bill, but take a listen to what he said yesterday during his weekly press conference on the issue. >> we want to get this done and get it done quickly without risk. the reconciliation process with debt limit goes back and forth, it ping-pongs between the house and senate. it's two or three times. it's not just adding on one amendment. this is the solution. we're asking republicans to support it. their proposal is risky, we're not doing it. >> reporter: the problem here is house leaders, democratic leaders had originally included a debt ceiling suspension with a continuing resolution also known as funding for the government to fund the government through december 3rd. funding for the government runs out at midnight tomorrow, so that is the problem here, and they included this with that bill. republicans blocked it. they said they are not going to get behind any sort of debt ceiling increase. so now democr

the president has been in close touch with speaker nancy pelosi, majority leader chuck schumer, over the course of the last couple of days with lawmakers as well, i'm told, and what we're mostly hearing, the president is trying to in one part mediate, but mostly try and keep the conversations going. they feel like they made progress last week at the white house, the five hours of meetings, two dozen lawmakers. bringing down the temperature that had kind of fractured the party over the course of several days. the biggest part of the process is to try and reach an agreement, something the president thinks can happen eventually. >> i was a born optimist, i think things are going to go well. i think we're going to get it done, and itch meetings tonight, tomorrow, and for the next little bit. it may not be by the end of the week. i hope it's by the end of the week. as long as we're still alive, we've got three things to do. the debt ceiling, continued resolution. and the two pieces of legislation. we do that, the country is going to be in great shape. >> and wolf, you heard the president
