let's simulate that with future cast, there is plenty from northern california to the caldor fire and we will have to watch for any time that the wind shifts a little bit, that smoke could drift into the bay area, including smoke from the mcfarland fire and the monument fire in northern california making its way over the ocean and swinging back through the bay area. some tries to make its way into the north bay tomorrow, the highest elevations in napa counties might see some of that most of it will remain in mendocino and lake county. into thursday, that's when more of the service level smoke will try to swing in from over the ocean, this is not the densest smoke around the state, we are on the lower end of the spectrum but it will be enough to decrease air quality to the moderate category across the board on thursday, some improvement on the coast for friday, and at worst into the first day of the labor day weekend we are talking about moderate air quality levels. we will keep you updated as the weekend gets closer, there is hayes on the horizon so it's not crystal-clear but it's bet

it's a sign of the times throughout northern california, and it's certainly true for mill valley. the question is, what should residents do it for fire threatened this community of hillside homes with two way streets, some as narrow as 10 ft across so that as soon as someone stops or tries to go the other way, it's a traffic jam. these streets were. built around the turn of the century, when we still had horses and buggies or small cars, and since that time we've remodeled homes to be much larger. our latest theory right now is that we have two main roads in town. and both of those will be jammed up. that is where the mill valley mayor and other city officials are conducting experiments saturday, mill valley is teamed up with google researchers to organise an evacuation drill aimed at improving the evacuation response here. the drill will involve some 250 residents lining up on east blacktail avenue to create gridlock. then time how long it takes to clear the area by directing cars to nearby parking areas away from any fire zones. the theory is that by clearing the flatland area q

firefighters continue to battle massive fires in northern california. we have the latest containment numbers after we get back from break. >> welcome back to the kron 4 morning news at times you now for 14 08:00am and maybe you heard it. the thunder. maybe you saw it. the lightning, a lot happening in the early morning hours. our meteorologists john stray bull keeping us informed this morning. good morning, john. hey, good morning yeah. we saw a lot going on last night, especially. >> for the north bay in the inland, east bay. both of these areas did in fact see some thunderstorm activity last night. a bit of good news is it did come along with rainfall for most areas. so dry lightning wasn't as much of a thing. but that's not to say that we still can't see lightning sparked wildfires. even with the rainfall we saw you look outside from berkeley this morning does show low cloud cover. we are in the midst of what is still some isolated showers and even some heavy pockets of rain fall across parts of the bay. and that is especially true for the north bay

the fact that we'll get some rainfall in parts of northern california. certainly some great news. there is that storm energy we're tracking. i want to it good ready for tomorrow morning. up with of those mornings where you'll head out without your jacket. you'll say wait a minute. let me head back inside. get that jacket because the bay area will be impacted by the chill. we have temperatures in the low to mid 50s from the tri-valley to the south bay. some fog near the bay. the thickest right there in san francisco. we'll start with 54. as we roll through the afternoon, the temperatures continue to look very comfortable. after the upper 90s earlier this week, we are back down to the 70s and the 80s for the east bay. 75 in martinez, 82 in livermore, same thing for santa rosa and napa. near the coastline of the bay and wus. we got temperatures on drop and here comes the rainfall chance. check back in the data last year. it took us until november, mid-november this weekend. so. much earlier than last year. here's the time line. 11:00 many other saturday, the storm system lines up wit

on the bigger picture, watch what happens we take the map of northern california and start coloring in where it is going to rain starting monday. this is monday, midnight, just as we click out of the weekend and into the morning. we will start to see the rain up on the far northwest coast through tuesday. by wednesday morning, we have seen everything we are going to get. what are we going to get? about 0.75 inches of rain. models are registering enough to say measurable rain as far south as ukiah. we will watch that. maybe a little been getting into sonoma county. take away is that there's an early fall system coming back am a very similar to what happened about a week ago, where we got much-needed rain on the far northwest coast. we would like to see it come further south, but this is typical for this time of year. it is great news for the landscape. as good as for the air quality, even if we don't get the rain, because of the stronger onshore flow. it was wonderful last week. we are going to do it again over the next week. tomorrowmid to upper 50s for morning lows. the daytime highs,

we've also been watching a lot of the fires across northern california. now getting a little bit of some rain and keep in mind that we do still have the dixie fire caldera fire and complex of fires in northern california right now. we're seeing that rain moving in and it's approaching just to the north of the bay area nice to have a cool start to the week. we're still in the 60s right now and we'll only make it into the mid-70s into today. i do think we'll see more sunshine going into this afternoon out ahead of that system. but as we go hour by hour, it does show a little bit of green here indicating there could be some light rain moving especially near the coastline and this is later on this afternoon. going into this evening it does still show a lot of activity here. hit or miss showers mainly near the coast and in parts of the north bay but then going into late tonight. if this can hold together we could see showers for our inland areas as well. a lot of it once again falling apart. so the chance is still slight as this system moves in. and our temper
