meteorologist kari hall still monitoring drought conditions. we got a lot of rain, but how are things shaping up? >> that was historic. it was the strongest one we've ever had, especially this early in the season, brought us as much as 25 inches in the parts of the north bay mountains. we were in the highest level of the drought, the exceptional category for much of the north bay and the east bay. just a little while ago with the update that came out this morning, it moved parts of marin, coastal sonoma county, mendocino and lake county out of exceptional county to extreme. it's still really bad, but we do still have the highest level firefighter napa, solano and alameda and contra costa counties. we're going to hopefully see some improvements in the forecast. we are dry today. it's going to be nice and comfortable with temperatures in the low to mid 70s. there's another storm out in the pacific that will take a couple of days to get here. it looks like a lot of that rain stays to the north of the bay area for the weekend, bringing in cooler te

let's turn to meteorologist kari hall with a check of the forecast. >> make sure that you are aware of all the changes we have this weekend because today temperatures are going to heat up quickly and then by sunday, a major plummet in our temperatures. we'll talk about that. let's get you out for lunch if you'll be heading out around walnut creek. it's so comfortable outside with upper 60s. but it will continue to go up. and eventually make it into the low to mid-80s for the middle of the afternoon and right back down. let's get a look at our temperatures today. where we are headed for the south bay. 87 in gilroy. 82 in milpitas and 86 in los gatos. for the east bay, low to mid-80s with livermore reaching 85 degrees and mid-70s near the coast. really nice to go to the beach this weekend. all up and down the coast we'll see a warm-up for today and tomorrow. san francisco reaching into the upper 70s downtown and north bay temperatures reaching 84. ukiah and sonoma. and also going to see those temperatures warming up for the coast. but then looking ahead, we'll start to see some big chang

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect weatherwise and it is not too bad kari at all. >> not bad al all. its been so nice to have the cooler weather. and we've got one more round of a chance of showers. i know you may have walked out the door this morning and said ooph, my car is like really dirty now. because you got spotty light showers overnight. there is another system up there that that will be dropping in fairly quickly and bringing some rain to some of us. but its also been really nice to see the snow falling in thera. that snow is winding down and it was only for the really high elevations. take a look at this from homewood ski area, there was a light dusting of snow earlier this morning. so that was really cool to see. and if you are lucky enough to be packing up the car and heading to south lake tahoe, well the rain is winding down but the temperatures there today only reaching 48 degrees and dropping down to 24 degrees tonight. we'll see more of those mid-20s for the morning hours. but it does get fairly mild for those afternoon hours into the end of th

kari hall, do you have any wildfire concerns for this weekend? >> well, it's going to be hot, and we know it's been extremely dry, chris, so that's always a concern for us. as far as the wind, it looks to stay calm but we have ongoing fires across the region and that's going to bring in some smoke across the bay area. so taking a look at our air quality, some of the worst of that will be in parts of the east bay and santa clara valley. we're also adding ozone to the atmosphere. our temperatures will be heating up if you're sensitive to that, you might want to limit your time. there are lots of events going on around the bay area including san jose's south first friday. we're starting out with temperatures in the mid-80s and cooling down nicely as we go into tonight. so that may be something you want to do especially later on after work. but our temperatures today heading into the upper 60s in san jose. low 90s for inland east bay with concord headed toward 91 degrees and 89 in napa and some of those temperatures in the upper 80s for the north bay

kari hall tracking a cooldown and how long it will last. this is "today in the bay."

kari hall has been adding up how much we got last night. it's not a lot but we are excited and hopefully we're tracking a trend here. >> there will be a trend. what we got last night was not a lot and moved through so quickly. can you hang out longer? here's a look at the 18-hour loop and once again for much of the past several hours it was dry. quickly swept through the bay area. a lot spots in the tri-valley and parts of the south bay that didn't measure a lot. we have our next storm system coming our way. the long line of clouds and this one may have a lot more moisture associated with it and may move a lot more slowly which is going to be good for our rainfall totals. but we measured for some of our highest rainfall totals about a quarter inch in petaluma 0.1 and san francisco southward, less than 0.1 inch of rain. once again we're tracking another round of rain set to move in on wednesday. this will not bust the drought but may put an end to our wildfire season. we'll talk more about that coming up. >> looking forward to that. >>> you

. >> first let's begin with meteorologist kari hall. these conditions are expected to last until tomorrow night? >> this is an extended period of time deal with red flag warning conditions and for all the areas shaded in red, we'll still be under very critical time frame here until 5:00 tomorrow evening. we have extremely dry vegetat and the exceptional drought that's ongoing, along with the winds picking up and some humidity levels that will be very low. for those areas not included in the red flag warning, you are under a wind advisory. even in the valleys we'll start to see the winds continuing to pick up with some of those gusts up to about 30 miles per hour and this could bring down some trees and have more impacts on the power as well. but as we go through the forecast with our wind speed, the wind direction coming in from the north and our winds at about 25 to 35 miles per hour today. the bright purple shows where we will see some of those highest winds and that will be in elevations above 1,000 feet. even tonight it's still goin

. >> we want to bring in meteorologist kari hall. the red flag warning in effect for the next few hours because it's still windy out there and humidity levels still lowering. we're looking at some of our relative humidity in about the single digits which is critically dry and then these gusty winds that continue to move through especially the delta and some of those areas near brentwood, as well as much of the north bay in our mountains. and then we're also still seeing those wind advisories. all of this system that brought those high winds moves away from us gradually the winds will calm down but we have wind advisories for soleano county and some of those winds through the delta may still be gusting up to 40 miles per hour, but much of the central valley still included in that wind advisory until this afternoon. take a look at some of these wind gusts in parts of the east bay. los va kwu eros reservoir had a wind gust at 56 miles per hour. in the north bay, those crews are still working to fully contain a fire near american canyon

. >>> let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. rain coming in to california this week. actually going to miss the bay area? >> yeah, we're going to see this rain stay to the north of us. here's a look at that system as it does approach. a lot of the lighter showers getting ready to make it into the far northwestern coast of california. it's very light at this point and will continue to fizzle out as it moves in. we're seeing the clouds in parts of the north bay. no green there. as we go through the rest of the morning, this cold front will be sweeping through and also helping to improve our air quality. right now a lot of yellow dots for inland areas from the east bay down to the south bay but notice the good air quality for the north bay down to san francisco and parts of the peninsula and this will continue to improve as we go through the forecast. right now walnut creek at 68 degrees and only making it into the upper 70s compared to the hot temperatures we had yesterday. it does continue to cool off. so we'll talk more about more cooling in our forecast that's coming

kari hall, let's talk about the halloween forecast. that is very critical. >> yes, it's coming up in a few days, and the forecast is looking good. today and tomorrow, more sunshine and a boost in temperatures. but it is gorgeous out there. and it's been nice to see more sunshine after all the clouds in the off and on rain we've seen. today temperatures now at 64 degrees in san jose. and we're headed for the low 70s. so that's going to be warmer than where we were yesterday. a look at all of our microclimates. expect those temperatures to come up to about 74 in concord today. 68 in oakland and some low 70s in napa and palo alto 70 degrees in half moon bay in the lower 60s. so it's clearing out now. we'll see more sunshine but we'll talk about when that rain comes back. that's in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >>> thanks, kari. now to overnight progress in the effort to keep the a's in oakland and to build the team a new stadium. the alameda county board of supervisors with a key vote signaling support for the howard terminal b

meteorologist, kari hall, has been monitoring what we could expect throughout the region. how are things looking? >> so much better, and it's nice to get rain and take a break and then see more rain in the forecast. it will be warmer today and tomorrow we have more sunshine in the forecast. there's so much going on in the bay area this weekend with halloween and all of the events coming back, and the weather is looking good. after that is when we will see the showers. as you are heading out for work this morning in oakland, a light jacket needed for the start of the day. we are going from the mid-50s to mid-60s, and we will see upper 60s there today for a high will coming up. >>> vianey, any problems in the commute? >> i did look at the incident that popped up on the map on the bay bridge, and it was an overnight fender bender, and it's clearing there. this one here on 580 just popped up and i'll look into that. the south bay is clear along the peninsula as well. let's look at the southbound drive times are doing. 101 from highway 85, 18 minutes. a look at the bay bridge t

we're going to get to breaking news in just a moment but first we'll talk to meteorologist kari hall about the forecast because we are feeling that cooldown. >> yes, we are. with a cold front, it's come a little bit of moisture for parts of the bay area. we can see a little bit of some splotches of green here and there, moving into parts of the east bay around concord. light showers all a part of this cold front bringing in all of these clouds for the start of this day. you can see the light green coming off the coast, much of the rain evaporating before we're able to measure anything, but it's nice to see that as our cooler temperatures descend on the bay area. we are starting out with mid 50s and only reaching the upper 60s today. . >>> pfizer requesting emergency use authorization for its covid vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. >> when could these kids actually start getting these shots potentially, bob? >> reporter: hopefully before the end of the year. good morning, marcus and laura. pfizer submitting a request to the fda for emergency use authorization for children ages 5 to 1

kari hall is out, but meteorologist, vianey arana is in. it's starting out cold. >> yeah, it is. 40s. i definitely needed a coat this morning when i left the house on my way to work, but this afternoon it will be cool in the mid and upper 60s for a majority of the region. 67 in san josÉ. a couple upper 50s for around the coastline. 59 degrees in half moon bay. it says the clouds return and late evening rain, and that's what we are going to see, we will see a cool start and then increasing clouds and then in the evening the rain will push through. by 7:00, notice ukiah, santa rosa, the north will be the first to get that rain and then it starts to spread further southward, about 9:00 or 10:00 through san francisco, and then becoming scattered overnight into tomorrow morning. i will go into detail on the next seven days in a few minutes, but first let's check in with mike. >>> be sure you come back, folks, because those are important changes vianey has coming up. and then the bay bridge, it's 6:08 and metering lights turned on 20 minutes ago
