let's start with cassidy hutchinson's testimony and how is congress viewing this? is there second-guessing about using it as even though it was an admittedly secondhand piece of information? and bigger picture, do they think that her overall testimony was so damning, it could lead to criminal charges against trump? >> well, i think on the part of the select committee, they're very confident or at least continue to say they're very cover department in cassidy hutchinson's testimony, not the least which she testified under oath and did so publicly and the committee did to great pains to ensure that everything that she was saying at the hearing tuesday was as air tight as they could make it and that having been said, i think the committee is starting to acknowledge in private that they did not go back to the secret service to corroborate the exact details and the exact nature of what took place in that suv, but i think a lot of the members on the select committee see this as a bit of a side show, and certainly from the investigators standpoint, it is a bit of a side s

i hope people saw the example cassidy hutchinson and want to be like her than the many cowards hiding the truth and refusing to cooperate and fighting subpoenas. and one way investigations can naturally evolve cassidy hutchinson testifies yesterday, the subpoena for pat cipollone comes today. one thing leads to another. particular mid-level and junior level staffers who look at cassidy hutchinson and say i want to go down in history like her. >> the final two hearings are meant to focus on trump summoning the mob and trump failing to take immediate action to stop the violence. i mean one question that's still out there, a direct line between the oath keepers and the proud boys to the white house. what are your thoughts on that? >> i think that's what's going to be interesting about those hearings. you know, don, i've had this discussion i'm not going to talk about that too much, but i will tell you the committee has a tremendous amount of data and information about those right wing extreme groups and the investigative teams are incredibly good. it's going to be a red team day. the red

because cassidy hutchinson's testimony fully justified the subpoena to trump white house counsel pat cipollone that the committee issued today. the last time a president was destroyed by a congressional investigation, the white house counsel was a key witness. richard nixon's white house counsel, john dean, helped bring down the nixon presidency, with his testimony in the watergate hearings. and now it looks like pat cipollone could be the witness who locks in donald trump's guilt for the january 6th committee. when presidents break the law, the white house counsel knows. the white house counsel's job is to prevent presidents from breaking the law, among other things. that is to say, prevent them from breaking the law intentionally or, as can happen, unintentionally. when someone in the white house has a bright idea, like banning all muslims from entering the country, it is the white house counsel's job to say, we can't do that, that's unconstitutional. the white house counsel is not the presidents personal lawyer. the white house counsel does not represent the president as a lawyer.

the issue now is, people are trying to -- they're attacking cassidy hutchinson. they're raising some perfectly legitimate questions about her testimony, but the key thing is, her testimony was under oath. and all of the people who are complaining starting with donald trump that the other side hasn't gotten a fair hearing, that's a fair criticism of the committee, although it was republicans who didn't want to have a real committee. the people who could rebut with facts are the ones pleading the fifth and defying subpoenas. so the only way to actually engage this now is to get people under oath to say that's not true, and i don't know where those people are. >> and always being paid by the trump world and people around trump, who are the subject of this committee. i think that's an important part of it too. >> what was your reaction to the hearing? >> i guess my question is more to what you were talking about with the washington examiner and all these people coming out and saying this about donald trump because i think i have a little bit of your reaction, you're

but what surprised them as they watched cassidy hutchinson testify yesterday? >> there were a few things that surprised them according to some of the republicans we spoke to in the aftermath of her testimony yesterday, which was primarily that her revelations were stunning, shocking, in line with what they knew, what you guys just described about the former president's behavior, but also sort of this incredulity that cassidy actually betrayed those that she was so loyal to and worked so closely with, which even further underscored her credibility. this is someone who had spent her basically entire young adult life and career working for mark meadows. she was his right-hand man. people who worked closely with her told us she even carried his phone around for him at times, responded to text messages. she was five seconds away from the oval office. she was really in the thick of things. but now what you're seeing and regardless of these private exclamations and surprise and just disappointment at what she described, you're going to see republicans and the full for
