mr. leahy: mr. president, senators are prepared to return to their home state over the 4th of july. it is frustrating to me that we once again kicked the can down the road on providing the needed funding to address the ongoing covid pandemic. for months the administration, scientists, health care experts have raised the alarm -- we don't have the resources we need to stay ahead of the virus. actually with covid if you're not staying ahead of it, you're slipping behind to the detriment of all americans. to keep our recovery afloat, we've robbed peter to pay paul. earlier this month the administration announced that it is repurposing $10 billion that we appropriated in congress, $10 billion that was there to purchase additional vaccines, additional therapeutics, because our stocks were running low. the action by the administration, unfortunately, was necessary. projections indicate that as many as 1 should million americans -- 100 million americans, nearly one in three will be infected or reink effected with covid this -- or reineffected with covid this fall or winter as our immunity

seeing some reports that the secret service agents in question are prepared to testify under oath that mr trump never reached for the steering wheel. like heather. we will see if the committee moves to call those agents as well as who they plan to call in july as these committee hearings continue, you can expect more fallout. all right. thanks so much, greg appreciate it well. today's committee hearing was only announced yesterday. the date of the next hearing has not yet been determined. but the earliest it could happen is on july 11th. today state lawmakers advanced a bill in response to the supreme court's ruling that limited california's existing laws on concealed carry permits. a supreme court decision last week struck down in new york law that limits who can obtain a concealed, carry permit and be armed outside of the home. the ruling also applies here in california and a handful of other states, with similar gun laws. bill making its way through sacramento would replace that law in question and preserve limits on concealed carry permits. the court is now seen as a political branch.

on the campaign trail, mr. biden promised to make the nation, and i am quoting here, a pariah after the murder of journalist jamal khashoggi. a possible presidential visit to saudi arabia was pushed back to july, but they have been tightlipped about details and it is not clear, now, if that trip is actually happening, or if president biden will meet the saudi crown prince. a spokesperson for the white house national security council spoke earlier to cnn's pam brown. john kirby defended the ministrations softening toward the region. >> what has not changed is a long-standing, eight decades long partnership with saudi arabia and members of other countries in the region. saudi arabia, specifically, a key partner in the fight against i.s.i.s. a key partner in the region in terms of counterterrorism writ large, in terms of pushing back on iran's destabilizing behavior. and again, we have worked closely with the saudi's, engaging diplomatically in the war on in yemen which obviously the president has called for that
