so even though the richmond secession convention has voted to take virginia out of the union, the vote gets to go to the people in late may of 1861. and so delegates go back to their home counties and one of the first things that starts to gain traction is to hold a meeting up in the northern panhandle of west virginia in wheeling at what's known as the first of several wheeling convention. since this is the meetings that will create the current state we are residing in. at that first meeting, one of the key figures that we've talked about, john carlisle from harrison county, who was a leader of this sort of statewide push, noted pretty dramatic early on. let us act, let us repudiate these monstrous years through patience. let us show our loyalty to virginia and the union and let us maintain ourselves in a union at every hazard. it is useless to cry peace when there is no peace. and for for i for one will repeat what was said by one of virginia's noble sons and great statement give me liberty or give me death. though kind of suggesting that we're we want tstay loyal we want to stay in

once i got into the cutoff to go to the richmond bridge, there was no way.arned of the delays because caltrans crews had to cut a rectangle around the damaged area and replace it with rebar and concrete. this comes after the national transportation safety board called for the study of 68 bridges earlier this year, including the richmond san rafael bridge, but that was to safeguard them from vessel strikes. caltrans today wants to make it clear to drivers the bridge is structurally safe. there was a major seismic retrofit done to all of our large scale toll bridges in the 90s and the early 2000, and the richmond san rafael bridge was one of the bridges that that benefited from that. caltrans says the bridge that connects the east and north bays gets inspected every two years, which is federally mandated on top of the department's regular runs across the bridge with their maintenance teams. c caltrans ss the damage, called spalling, is part of the wear and tear of a 70 year old bridge. the deck actually still is in relatively good condition, except for occasio
