ktvu was the one on scene this morning. ktvu's ann rubin is live with the link investigators are looking into. >> reporter: they are not ideal in their wording but they -- identical in their wording. students showed us the message targeting a teacher. >> i was shocked. so shocked. he is a nice seecher. he doesn't -- teacher, he doesn't deserve this. >> reporter: shorts shut down the -- authorities shut down the schools. they have stepped up security for the teacher who we are not naming for his safety. >> we have a couple deputies staying with the teacher to provide protection. >> reporter: it appears there may have been multiple threats. investigators say it started one in high school but investigators found one at the middle school too. all of the schools remained open today. authorities want answers. they are not disclosing how many threats were made but they are tracking down the people responsible. >> the crime has been committed committed and we are following up on leads. >> reporter: police plan to step up security a

ktvu was first on the scene just after 8:00 this morning. the commercial building housed two businesses. firefighters tell us they were forced to take a defensive stance. it took crews about an hour to put out the fire. the business in the back was a total loss. the other business suffered mostly water damage. >>> new york police say human remains found in the home of the man who lured firefighters to their deaths are believed to be the remains of the gunman's sister. police also say that 62-year- old exconvict william spengler left a note about plans to shoot firefighters. he left a note saying that he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and quote do what i do best, kill people. >>> netflix says it is fully back online after service problems that started yesterday. the outage affected users in the u.s., canada and south america blocking viewing services from many users. they blamedded outage on a server belonging to amazon and said an investigation is under way to determine exactly what happened. >>> a lot of people may be headed to the si

ktvu's ann ruben is here now. ann tells us why authorities would like to try these two suspects together. ann. >> well, authorities say it's a question of time and money. they had preferred to call their witnesses only once and though a trial is a long way off, today's first joint court appearance lasted just a matter of minutes. >> for the first time, they appeared in court together. 26-year-old jonathan willbanks and his alleged accomplish 15-year-old mull droe. authorities believe the two were responsible for a crime spree november 16th that include several armed robbery, the attempted murder of a police officer and the fatal shooting of a campbell man during a carjacking attempt. de spite his age, mull droe is being tried as an adult though it's only willbanks who can potentially face the death penalty. neither entered a plea today. in the coming weeks as many as 50 cds worth of police reports, recordings and surveillance images will be compiled. authorities say with the case of this magnitude, the wheels of j

ktvu lorraine blanco has been on the story since 4:30. so what do you know about what happened out there? >> reporter: well, dave, the fire started in that stolen vehicle you were talking about. it was right about here. and spread to the building you see right there. now this morning a crew is picking up some of the wreckage out here. they will board it up and they will secure it as police try to track down the person or persons who started the fire. this is exclusive video you will see only on 2. the fire started in a stolen vehicle just after midnight. it spread to a nearby building. the owner says this is a telephone and computer networking company. the battalion chief tells us a security guard was inside during the fire. he is treated for smoke inhalation and is expected to be okay. neighbors thought it would spread to nearby homes. they are grateful for very skilled firefighters. >> i wouldn't want anyone to get hurt. there are a lot of young families living in a cold sack over there. my son is right around the corner himself. >> rep
