d.c. police custody, was arrested at his home and whether he has any involvement in the shooting or not is not at all clear to us at this point. we just don't know. authorities do believe they have now gotten the identification of the person who actually fired the shots and they are just working to confirm that identity right now. as for the possibility of a second shooter, and by the way, the gunman who died in building 197 is the second person that the police chief was describing, we're told so that leaves the possibility of one other person yet to be accounted for, a person who the police chief a couple of hours ago described as a possible second shooter. that person was seen on surveillance video outside building 197 with a hand gun and holster and it's not clear from the video whether this person was responding to the shooting, was some kind of military person authorized to carry a weapon and responding to the shooting, or was in fact a second shooter that was shooting at victims. tha

well i mean the democratic mayor of d.c. vetoed the city council because he understood that having three large businesses that are going to employ a lot of people in low income areas is a good thing and that ultimately it's better to have nonunion non-unionized jobs than no jobs at all and nationally wal-mart pays pays their employees comparable wages to unionized supermarkets so the idea that they were just that they are destroyers of small businesses is actually not met by the data nationally well you know actually that's incorrect because when you look at wal-mart the reality is wal-mart yes pays some salaries but they don't pay benefits very often and the benefits that they pay are too costly for most workers who are called associates and wal-mart to access that's the reality and in fact when you look around and see what happened with the wal-mart associates is that they end up on public assistance or they end up having to tap into food stamps or they end up in the emergency room so the reality is it's not only the destr

d.c. police chief now says there may be, may be three gunmen and two may still be on the loose. one suspect is dead. this according to the d.c. police chief, cathy lanier. shots broke out this morning around 8:30 a.m. eastern. witnesses describe one of the gunmen as a tall, bald man wearing black and carrying what looked like a rifle. at least two law enforcement officers are among the shooting victims. barbara starr reports that extra security has been mobilized at the pentagon, once again, out of an abundance of caution. they aren't saying they are responding to any specific threat at the pentagon. but security, i can tell you, has been intensified throughout so many locations here in the nation's capital right now. just a little while ago, we heard from president obama, he addressed the shooting in remarks at the white house. listen to what he said. i've been briefed by my team on the situation. we still don't know all the facts. but we do know that several people have been shot and som

if you are from d.c. you probably heard about dunbar from my mom or dad or uncle, if you are not from d.c. the story might be unfamiliar to you so i want to introduce a little bit to folks who are thinking why is everybody talking about this high school and what is so important about it? the story goes something like this. dunbar high school was a place where a highly educated and engaged teachers to have the highest expectations for their students and as a result produce scholars who went to college in the 1950s 80% of high school graduates went to college and as a result they exiled in wide-ranging fields from business to education to the sciences and the arts. i could be talking about andover or exeter or any of these schools but one of the reasons dunbar was so spectacular and the story itself is so spectacular was because don barr was a segregated high school in the nation's capital and it produced some of the greatest african-americans and the greatest americans period. so many firsts came from dunb

nobody owns nothing in d.c. the federal government owns everything in d.c. you are representing neighborhoods and projects that care nothing about you. he hadn't realized the depth of the girls' inspirational deprivation until he started taking them on tours of colleges when they had track meets. we went to virginia tech, i met with the director of pre-engineering. he took the girls all around. they went in dorm rooms. you should have seen their faces. i could have just cried. the girls had no idea that life could be like that. i never have to win another championship, but my girls have got to go to college, he says. his nearby changes when -- his demeanor changes when he thinks about the bigger picture. we need to start telling the truth about these things. you want to break cycle, break the cycle of having babies, staying in d.c., being on section 8 and never leaving the -- i hope i have the page, i may have to look this up. he put it so beautifully and simply. a young white guy, he says the kids ask him about his hair a lot. of. mayor anthony gray, chief of police in d.c. and the head of the d.c.ffice of the fbi which is heading the the investigation. the shooter was identified as aaron alexis. he was in the navy. he was kicked out back in 2011 after being arrested on a gun charge in 2010 in ft. worth, texas. we know there are 13 dead including the shooter. there were many, many rounds in building 197. around 8:20 a.m. on the fourth floor shots fired into a lunchroom where victims were shot and many apparently killed. they won't tell us, authorities, what kind of weapons were used, how many rounds fired or the gunman may have had on him when they took him down. the chief of police told us she's convinced there would have been more victims if they hadn't engaged the suspect. there were multiple engagements inside the building. not just from interior building security but from responding d.c. police officers and park police officers. they had active shooter teams in the building. >> i don't know if you know this. jennifer griffin will join us in a few minutes. how do you get kic

look, d.c. capitol police, metropolitan police, fbi, park police, all of those agencies serve this area and they drill and train for just this kind of situation when you have an active shooter or perhaps a terrorist incident here in washington. all hypotheticals have been run through over the past year since september 11th, security posture of all of those agencies have changed dramatically in washington and expect they have a play book they're going to run the minute they have any violence or uncertainty in the nation's capitol. all of those agencies will step up security until they know what happens happening, they feel confident ratcheting that down. there's a visible security presence here in d.c. as long as this is considered an active shooter situation which is it as of now. we've had no information to tell us this is not an active shooter situation anymore. >> thank you for that. eamon javers doing incredible work reporting on the fly, all morning long. thank you for that. for more on the
