aig was clearly a turnaround case. rest of theand the aig board want to see bob and ben moshe a do next? >> we continue to work on the our divestiture, ilfc, aircraft leasing business. we had a deal with the chinese to sell it to them. neither side has terminated, we have been looking at other alternatives. even though they are a great company, it is not a good fit with an insurance company balance sheet, particularly with all of their new regulations. a capital-intensive business like that does not belong in an insurance portfolio. we will get on with selling that. before we move onto the next phase, what are some of the options? >> fundamentally the three options ahead of us would be to complete a deal with the chinese. the second option would be to sell to someone else. the third option would be to do an ipo. see the airline business doing so well, is the ipo looking more attractive? >> it has always been attractive. .t has been a matter of choice if we were unable to sell all at once, it would still be a balance sh

aig is focusing on its main business of insurance. lastly, the aig chairman spoke to bloomberg television. it's a greatgh company, it's not a good fit with an insurance company balance sheet. it's a very capital intensive business like that and does not belong in an insurance portfolio. we love the company and the earnings but we will get on with selling it. >> bloomberg news has been on the story for quite some time is ourning us now reporter covering this. >> this is a tough thing to sell with lots of planes and that. over the last year, they have been working to sell to the chinese. they could not get it done. >> wasn't part of the problem that the planes were older? >> yes, they had a series of write-downs on those planes. >> how good is the business? downs,cause of the write- it has not been possible this year. it feels like the future in leasing, people are flying. >> it seems like it's an intriguing business. is it a growing business? >> there is a lot of demand for air travel particularly in china. fora was there everpoint whe

aig can do that. knowing that the federal reserve is buzzing around, we have eight or nine full-time people watching everything we do. and while the federal reserve does not -- make it clear, federal reserve does not approve or disapprove what we do, they observe what we do. therefore it is the decision of management to recommends it to the board. we and do that capital management. if you're a regulator some place else in the world and see aig doing this, they would have to say, look, if this is going to be something around safety and soundness, the federal reserve would stop them. and to me, that's good. >> so prudential, for example. >> good housekeeping seal. >> of course. that's not what they want to do. but that's what they've accomplished. >> prudential said i don't want to be a sifi. is there a magnitude in terms of size where they should be? does it matter to you? >> like it or not when you're big and you make promises and guarantees for people's lifetimes, you have to have somebody overseeing

it was a long time that you were negotiating with aig, correct? >> well, the actual negotiations moved reasonably quickly, but we did a lot of work over the course of the last year rounding up all the money because we knew there was a competing bid out there from china, but that bid had missed a few deadlines. we went to one of our trusted banks, ubs, and they put up the necessary financing so that when we approached aig, we had absolute serbty of closing -- certainty of closing. liz: so props to ubs, let's give them some problems that they looked at the deal, and it's a hit out of the ballpark because, clearly, the stock responded so unbelievably well. and as we look at the deals of it, really immediately, within the blink of an eye, are on par with the behemoth, and that is ge's leasing company. what will you do differently at aircap now? >> well, the way the business is run, liz, is that there's four principles you run it on. your customer base is made up of the airlines, there's about 800. of over the next 15 years, twiews as many people as ar

here's aig moving slightly higher on the news, off the highs of the year but not bad at all when you look what aig has been through the past couple years and, frankly, what one small division put us through. despite all the fiscal uncertainty and unending taper talk until we actually see on behalf of the federal reserve, we have one person who says overall the economy is in pretty good shape. with more than $2.4 billion in assets under management, my next guest believes there's plenty of time left in the year for you to make a pretty penny. he's tim holland. a couple of days left of trade here, tim, what do you mean a lot of time? >> well, i don't know if we have a lot of time, there's always next year, but i think your comments around aig are pretty instructive, liz, and it gets back to corporate america very focused on shareholder value. and we're just seeing that. we're seeing companies divest non-core businesses, companies buy their competitors, and so the private sector in this country is in fantastic shape, and that's being reflected, we see, in the stock market. and we've owne

from the families of aig, happy holidays. delays have been dropping steadily for years but a lot of frequent flyers may not agree with that. now a report from the u.s. inspector general says on time numbers may not be telling the whole story. zane asher is at the new york stock exchange with the details. zane, why is this report suspicious? i know as a frequent flyer, that they've been padding these times, these start times, these departure times and arrival times. does that have thing to do with this. >> why he, unfortunately, that is exactly right. so even though the data shows that flight delays have improved, if you will, from between 2,000 and 2012 down by about 33%, you have to take the fact that only 76% of airlines are included in this report and the fact it's only 16 of the largest carriers. second of all, there is some padding going on. most airlines push back their scheduled arrival times so if there are delays you don't notice it. on paper durations are getting longer so even if the flight is delayed it still ends
