and i want to talk about krystle campbell who lost her life that day. if you can, take me back to those moments on boylston street in april of 2013. >> yeah it just happened so fast. we went there to watch kevin run. we were trying to get a good spot to take a picture when the first bomb went off. that's where we were standing. like you said it happened so fast. one minute i was looking at my cell phone. the next i was on the ground. >> and i understand you held krystle's hand in those final moments. >> yes, i tried to find her. it was just so chaotic. you know just get close so i could talk to her. our heads ended up being right together. but she only said a couple words, and then she passed out. so she didn't really get to say too much. >> you shared some of this as you testified as part of this trial in boston. there you were so many survivors were in the same room sharing the same oxygen as him. what was that like for you? >> i had a lot of anxiety about it leading up to it. i know some of the other people that had to testify and relive their storie

so he did not get the death penalty for krystle campbell's death, nor did he get the death penalty for the death of officer collier collier, because it was never clear which of the two brothers pulled the trigger. >> pete, the numbers are stark in terms of the federal death penalty. there's something like 60 people on federal death row. but the total number of federal prisoners who have been executed over the last 50 years is three. it's a very lightly used process. even once you get people on to death row in federal crimes. is there any way to extrapolate from that, and from the other cases that have gone forward, to figure out the likelihood of this sentence ever being carried out? >> i guess there are two ways to look at that. one is to say that the odds are against it and in fact in both the federal and state system the odds of someone sentenced to death actually being executed are quite low. because of additional appeals and days. right now there are no executions in the federal system, because of the same controversy that has them boll bolloxed up in the state system, the controv
