let's go to craig patrick now because craig, you went out on a limb early on to call this race for the state of florida, and back there looking at the broward numbers, really, it was all about that, wasn't if? >> >> well, we were first to call at 10:06. we weren't really going out on a limb because we're looking at math here. what we have is 10:06, roughly 99% of the vote in. you have hillary clinton trailing by more than 138,000 votes at that moment. we say okay, can hillary clinton make that up? what's the maximum number of votes she can make up. we looked at broward county. it h states, and broward county delivered. donald trump's number actually went up a little bit because you had some rural panhandle counties that were delivering in a very big way for donald trump. he was washing out hillary clinton's gains in broward. we said okay, what about miami-dade, no. 100% in. what about palm beach county? no. it wasn't there. this was a replay of 2014. we've seen this story before except instead of clinton trump, it was crist versus scott, and this math lines up almost years ago. althoug

this is a big important story, craig. it kind of tells you that the national polls might not necessarily be aligning with battleground state polls. underperforming versus mitt romney's performance in 2012, you can end up seeing that hillary clinton could end up having a bigger lead nationally than she does in some battleground states that usually end up reflecting where the kind of the middle of the country is and for an example of that, let's go to new hampshire where there's a tied race. hillary clinton had had a lead but the polls we've seen recently show you have 42% to 42% or 44% to 44% and this battle ground, at least, it's a tied race. so very interesting findings, craig, and kind of all makes up for some unpredictability in the final days. >> i want to come back in the poll of the day. but peter, let me bring you into the conversation here. there is, of course, this plethora of polling every day if not every hour. what, for you, so far, has been the big story out of all of this polling that we've been digesting ov

>> well, i think it's both of those things, craig. i mean, first, when you limit the number of days people can early vote, particularly african-americans, and then when you -- when you're purging voter rolls in certain counties where african-americans are predominant. then you add on top of that the one person who polled those voters into the voting booths in 2008 and 2012, he's no longer on the ballot, you know, this is the sort of nightmare scenario that democrats have been worried about for a very long time. and, you know, it's great that -- i think catty was just talking about how the african-american numbers are good but they're not astronomical like they were over the previous two elections. that is worrisome, that is something that the democrats are going to have to push hard for. i think the president is going to north carolina either today or tomorrow to put an exclamation point on this idea that hillary clinton, if she's going to become president of the united states, she should win north carolina, especially since it's a st

craig before we get into i just want to ask you question. about 45 minutes before the or anybody else called florida last night you did it. and i'm just wondering what did you see? what trend did you see to cause you to call it that early? it was a matter of basic math it wasn't that we were going out on limb you look at the number of counties who had already reported versus margin that exist donald trump was leading by 1.4 percent. roughly 138,000 votes. we were waiting for broward county. because roughly half the or 25 okay maybe she had a chance to make it up once 10:06 p.m. we saw more than 90 percent of broward county in most of the vote tallied she no other place to recoup loss of votes. because in all of population centers hillsborough county, orange county, certainly in tallahassee gainesville these were areas where she did very well but votes were already in okay let's get every single vote out there to hillary clinton. that wouldn't happen let's say it did she nint,000 votes he was behind by 130 thouks votes we saw few remaining co

craig? >> craig: the preliminary hearing in this case was put off until early next year. the reason somewhat unusual. this is a case we first began to cover mid-november. it involves an allegation that a teenager tried to run down a metro cop who was approaching that teenager's vehicle during a and we did see him in person in court morning. his attorney told the judge that he does know the attorney knows the officer, scott hinkley, who pritchard is accused of trying to harm. the incident happened mid-november near las crus court. pritchard was speeding and had expired registration when officer hinkley approached his car. the officer ended shooting at the car when he allegedly raced toward the officer in what the officer down. the judge decided there's the appearance of a conflict, not an actual conflict, but the appearance since the previously court appointed attorney to represent pritchard knows of the officer who fired the shots at pritchard. because of that and in an abundance of caution she appointed a new attorney. and because of that set a new preliminary hearing da
