just way of history, san francisco had their first san francisco building code in 1900 roughly and in 1906 there was a large earthquake and fire of course and that is what the building codes are designed for. they deal with those fire and earthquake issues and add those things into the code. after about 80 years of adding stuff in the code for the issues that they ran across, they finally came up with a building code that is this big. this is the 1984 electrical code. there was like 6 of these and that was the entire building code. now a dis the building code is 4 feet of binders and there is substantial amendments. in 1984 california adopted the california-san francisco adopted the california building code instead of having their own code and the california building code is california's required to adopt a model code that is published by outside company and once they adopt that california adds their amendments to it and that's becomes the california building code. um, california publishes its code title 24 california code of regulations july 1 of the year preceding when it goes into

thanks for being officers in the city and county of san francisco. chief . >> first of all real fast i'm with the mayor every wednesday and the joke you heard i have to hear those every wednesday when i meet with him [laughter ]so the sympathy should be flowing my way. the incident that the mayor was talking about wasing at market and jones and it was a support armed with a firearm and the officer showed incredible restraint and saves that mans a life. i have since met with the mother and father of the man's life that was saved and they are incredibly grateful to the san francisco police department. they spent about two hours praising our efforts, and giving us kudos for making sure that resolved the way it did. that is what we're trying to push forward and we all understand it's not always going to work out in our favor and things that happen that are well beyond the control of anybody wearing that uniform and we need to make sure we're crystal clear on that, but at same time, to approach every situations a life-saving situation. the department is m

so moved. >> we are now on item 6, san francisco zoo. >> powerpoint, please. good morntion vice-president low, commissioners, [inaudible] gaines berg, thanks for having me here today, a few updates from san francisco vao*, we have over the last several months have been undertaking a renovation of the historic lion house, i'm sure many of you know this is one of the original buildings on the property of the zoo that was originally opened in 1940, so after those nearly 80 year, some of these buildings do need some renovations and we're excited about this. a will the of our patrons love come tog the zoo and haven't been able to go into the lion house for a period of time. with these renovations, we are updating some bathrooms which are very need ined that part of the zoo, as well as completely renovating the roof, skylights and some paint. what you see here on the left side is a complete removal of the traditional bars that you would see with full glass where our patrons will be able to have better observance of the big kat ins that area. we've also install add p
