now let's look at paul ryan's plan. paul ryan's plan for medicare, according to those who have analyzed it at the kaiser family found, 59% of seniors would end up paying higher premiums under medicare. i'm quite sure quite a few trump voters were not expecting him to come after medicare. is paul ryan planning to come after medicare for current recipients or think future people? and if it's future people, does that in any way alleviate the structure of the program? >> so ryan, when he first introduced the plan, was going to introduce this right away. as it became controversial and they were looking for ways to get it through, they said, all right, we'll change that. we'll hold off. we won't, you know, introduce it for the first ten years. if you're 55 or older, you can count on the traditional medicare, just like you always could. but then for 55 and younger, it would change. the problem is, you can't do it that way. as soon as you get that second pool in there, now you have a medicare program for people who are 55 and o

david ade is in janesville with paul ryan who just accepted victory. bill: also between senator ron johnson and russ feingold. michele: joining us now in studio cbs 58 morning news anchor kate chapel. looking very interesting and taking shape since the last time we took a look, kate. kate: that is correct. 270 the magic number to win. as it stands, donald trump leading electoral votes 137-104. you can see a number of states have been called at this point. you'll see a lot of red on this map early on but, again, none of those major battleground really the election is anyone's game. a couple notable wins for trump so far. by size anyway. texas 38 electoral votes. not shocking since texas has voted republican in the last nine elections. he also took indiana. that has 11 electoral votes. again no surprise. that is typically a red state and also governor mike pence's home state. also electoral votes. as for clinton, she has wins in several east coast states. not a big surprise to see a lot of blue up there. alsoll votes. illinois voted democrat in the last

paul ryan did not seem to have concern. the real thing we're concerned about is donald trump getting results. are you concerned about donald trump's children potentially getting security clearance? as well as his children running trump businesses? would that present a conflict of interests in your view? paul ryan discounted that completely. he said he should rely on good advisers like his children. so a real sound of unity coming out of the republican conference meeting ahead of these elections. a lot different than the house democrats are experiencing right now. >> oh, no doubt about that. jeff, tell us about that, because democrats are delaying their election. >> they are indeed, and nancy pelosi, the pdemocratic leader was hoping for a vote later this wyche. that's not now going to happen. the vote november 30th. 15 days from now. a lot of member we talked to said, the party needs time to regroup. tim ryan, democrat from ohio, is considering running against nancy pelosi. he's not made the decision yet, but i spoke to hil

they have voted to keep paul ryan as speaker. let's go to manu raju on the hill for us. manu, with this vote, it was unanimous, was it not? >> it was a voice vote which basically means a unanimous vote, this was such a different scene than what we expected a few weeks ago when at that time conservatives were concerned about what was happening in the electi election. they thought they were going to lose, they wanted to look for a scalp and that turned out to be paul ryan. at the end of the campaign, paul ryan unified behind donald trump even though he expressed reservations about him through the course of the campaign and they ended up winning so this party, this conference showing a sense of unity a sense they want to work together and don't want to devolve into a messy leadership fight. earlier today paul ryan speaking to reporters about his optimism about the trump administration. take a listen. >> this will be a government focused on turning president-elect trump's victory into real progress for the american people our team is very excited and we cannot wait to get to

we have so much to talk about but your thoughts on paul ryan? >> i'm so glad that paul is elected. the leadership is in place beginning to focus what paul is focused on, policy solving problems and creating opportunities for all americans. it is a good day. liz: listen, it is also, had been a good week for you. you initially had backed john kasich. wh he did not get the win to become the republican nod for president, candidate, you went with donald trump and you went all-in, and you even helped deliver him the key state of michigan. from your gut reaction, how did that happen? >> well, it happened for a couple of reasons. number one, donald trump, and mike pence campaigned actively in michigan. republicans have historically kind of given up on michigan. they never gave up. they came i think combined they might have been in the state eight or nine times in the last nine days of the campaign. liz: you were with them much of that, correct? >> i was with them much of that. you watched crowds come out and donald trump and mike pence had a message that connected with the people of michig

ryan are, and also, you know, paul ryan -- so trump annihilated, you know, all of his opponents on the right including people like paul ryan who had, as you said, kind of a testy relationship with him. he took, trump won wisconsin, a state that paul ryan couldn't pull when he was on the ticket. that is devastating. and so i think it's so much easier for trump to be magnanimous having just completely destroyed these opponents. julie: but what's interesting what it says about the future of the republican party, because the paul ryans of the world, the mitch mcconnells of the world, free trade to some extent, much more globalist -- i hate that term, but -- >> yep. julie: -- than what you saw right now, you're right. i don't know how he did in janesville, wisconsin, but he won wisconsin. what does this say for paul ryan's agenda that he's been very clear about trying to effectuate -- sandra: who dictates it? >> there's tension there, and i think that's terrific. the biggest problem we've had for the past two presidencies, they'll just do anything. and the same with george w. bush and the r

he tried to help paul ryan's primary challenger to defeat him. he brought paul nilan on many times in that time period. he said paul ryan was grown in a petrie dish at the heritage foundation. he's been completely unvarnished in his distaste and opposition to paul ryan. so, yeah, if he's the guy running the white house staff, that's going to make for some interesting conversations between the white house and the house of representatives. >> kellyanne conway saying that is imminent that announcement of who the chief of staff would be. sara, when you look at the idea of reince priebus potentially being that choice, what would that tell you about the trump administration? that's that key first role. >> i've worked for reince priebus. he's an incredibly hardworking, organized manager and leader. that would be a sign to conservatives that trump wants to govern as a conservative. reince priebus also hatz significant relationships with republicans on the hill, as betsy was saying, not just on the house but on the senate side as well. he's the longest se

ryan, paul ryan has been saved in a strange way by donald trump and all of paul ryan's dissenters are kind of fading into the background and saying, we need unity, we need to get behind paul ryan. there are very difficult things in the coming weeks and months. the government shuts down in less than a month from now. paul ryan, mitch mcconnell and donald trump have to figure out a way to keep it open and the health care issue, the wall with mexico, i mean, these are funny things and interesting things in the campaign trail. legislative reality is a lot different and it's going to be challenging and inside paul ryan's operation, they do not underestimate that challenge at all. >> they're going to have to start talking about the spending package in short order. no doubt about that. thank you for that. katy, the final word on this. there's been a lot of reporting about the transition and how donald trump is going to approach it. he has a learning curve. he would acknowledge that since he never served in office and reports today that this is not someone who delves into policy but he wants
