i am john dickerson. it has been another bracing week in washington and we talked about it earlier with president trump's chief of staff reince priebus. >> mr. priebus, welcome. i want to start with a little business before we get to the substance of things. there has been a debate about when to take the president seriously. he recently tweeted that the press was the enemy of the american people. should we take that seriously from him? >> well, i think you should take it seriously. i think the problem we have got is that we are talking about bogus stories like the one in "the new york times" that we have had constant contact with russian officials, the next day the "wall street journal" had a story that the intel community was not giving the president a full intelligence briefing, both stories grossly inaccurate, overstated, over blown, and it is total garbage, so "48 hours" on bogus stories and the american people suffer. so i do think it is a problem and i think that the media needs to, in some cases fo

john dickerson. we begin with the top democratic senator, chuck schumer who joins us from the broadcast center in new york. welcome, senator. i want to start with this question of north korea and the missile test. do you think this is as test of a new president or is this just north korea doing its periodic thing? >> well, it is both. north korea is showing itself, itself to be an irresponsible nation in every way and i am sure they are testing president trump. i was glad he issued the statement with the prime minister of japan, but he also wants to do it quickly with south korea. south korea is probably more susceptible to north korea's virulence than any other country and there was some doubt cast on the relationship in the campaign by the then candidate trump. so do the same thing with south korea that he did with japan and do it quickly. >> dickerson: is that all that can be done, though s just words and condemn haitian? >> no. the real answer to curtailing north korea is china. like on so many o

>> dickerson: welcome back to "face the nation". i am john dickerson. we continue our conversation with chairman of the house intelligence committee devin nunes. mr. chairman, i wanted to get back to you to what you said about those who had burrowed in in the intelligence agencies, maybe holdovers from or supporters of president obama. is that something you are going to look into with your committee in terms of those who are burrowed in? >> no, no, we won't, but one of the things on this russia issue, john, that is important is that the house intelligence committee has long been conducting ongoing investigations into russia, and, in fact, a year ago i publicly stated that the biggest intelligence scare since 9/11 was our failure to understand putin's plans and intentions, at the time the administration balked at that, the ic ignored it and it wasn't until after they lost an election that they started to pay attention to russia so i am happy they are paying attention to russia now, i am happy the american people are paying attention to russia. there are

face the nation host john dickerson. what would you say is the president's takeaway from the speech at k -- cpac. >> it's a standard taking on of the press. i think the biggest thin was not actually the content of what he said. but justed the total change in the -- just the total change in the movement. and it is now the donald trump movement. it's an amazing thing he did, winning, as he did beating 16 other veteran politicians. but he's really transformed a party this. is donald trump's party and will everyone is coming in, falling in line with him. last year, he canceled his appearance at cpac. there were people who criticizim totally transformed one of america's major parties and major ideological movements. that's going to be a mean feat. >> he was a hit. next tuesday, he'll be addressing the joint congress at the capital. is he expected to lay out a wish list? or what can we expect? >> i think we can expect that it will be unexpected. donald trump has changed -- excuse me, president trump and candidate donald trump

dickerson is joining us now from the set of "face the nation." john, there was something you noticed today about the president repeating that his national security adviser had done nothing wrong. >> that's right. the michael flynn episode is about what penalty there is for not telling the truth in the trump administration. and today we got about the fourth explanation from the president on what his relationship was with michael flynn. the president said flynn had to resign because the former national security adviser had lied to the vice president about a conversation flynn had with the russian ambassador. but the president was fuzzo what flynn had lied about. the president suggested that flynn's conversation with the ambassador was awe "no big deal" outreach that takes place during a transition. >> mike was doing his job. he was calling countries and his counter-parts. so it certainly would have been okay with me if he did it. i would have directed him to do it if i thought he wasn't doing it. i didn't direct him. but i would have directed him >

charles: we one well-known journalist, john dickerson saying the media brought this upon themselves. he's the only person who has had a come to jesus moment saying we are not babes in the woods that shouldn't be held accountable. >> dickerson's piece was interesting. back in november, that's what we were saying. president trump should know the number of votes. got american people care? i honestly don't know. normally we would think yes of courts american people care. charles: maybe on a scale of 1 10,hat's a.1. if i ever win the white house, i'll. this is a major battle and the media has a role in holding everyone to account. i think over the years they have been on a pedestaly where no one can push back. >> the media is not immune from criticism. but we also have to remember that donald trump is the president of the united states. if you were a donald trump supporter and voted for him. do you want him standing for an hour lashing out at the media? charles: donald trump supporters out of all the people in america changed their minds in the last 24 hours? >> no, they feel the same way
