nicco. mike? >> reporter: kristen, hi everybody, yes. eventually we'll turned our attention to louisiana because that's where harvey is going and where the heaviest rain will be the next several of days. right now up towards gavelston and beaumont port. that area is getting pounded. 9 circulation is just barely hugging the coast. can you see almost like an eye developing in the cloud structure but notice it goes from houston all the way over to tampa, the influence and all that moisture moving into the southeast is going to pile up over the next several days and cause flooding there. a lot more localized and not as devastating, but areas you see in red, magenta, that's going to be six to eight inches of rain in the 24 to 48-hour time frame in the western sections of louisiana around memphis and also in the panhandle of florida and alabama, so the shift is going to change, kristen, as we head through the next couple of days. >> all right. thanks a lot, mike. >> the victims of hurricane harvey

meteorologist mike nicco is busy tracking harvey. mike, where do things stand? >> it's amazing how quickly it intensified during the past 12 hours. hi, everyone. let's take you there and show you what it was. tropical storm harvey with winds of 45 miles per hour, now it's hurricane harvey with winds of at least 85 miles per hour and it's slowing down which means it's sitting on top of that fuel rich warm moisture hand that's creating intensification to a major hurricane by friday night, early saturday morning, when it makes landfall, possibly right on top of corpus christi, texas and moves inland and then stalls, so that state of emergency could be expanded past those 30 counties to include parts of central texas where rainfall could be up to nearly two and a half to three feet and right now preliminary forecasts on some of our newer computer models say at least 300,000 people are going to lose power. life-threatening flooding and a storm surge are going to be the biggest issues with this one, kristen >> we'll cope watching that. developing and happier news. in

everyone is watching texas, including meteorologist mike nicco who is tracking harvey. what's the latest? >> not good, jessica. the storm continues to intensify over the nearly 90 degree ocean water there in the gulf. i mean, look at how textbook that whirling dervish looks as it bears down on corpus christi down to brownsville and the rio grande river valley. 110-mile-per-hour winds. we're expecting that to boost up to about 115, possibly 120 over the next couple hours. before it makes landfall late this evening as a major category-3 storm, then it's going to stall in parts of texas, leaving us with two to three inches, burying us, if you will. a life-threatening storm surge up to 12 feet. and at least our new models say 300,000 people without power. reggie. >> and it's going to sit there for days. that's going to be a huge flooding problem. thank you. >>> only on abc7 news, a new development in the east bay police sex scandal. the i-team has learned attorneys for the woman at the center of it have filed a new federal lawsuit against contra costa county sheriff david l

i want to bring in mike nicco because you have been watching the storm closely. especially as it gets closer to and now hitting louisiana. they're going to be dealing with substantial rain, too. >> absolutely. a lot of refineries along the i-10 corridor also, in lake charles at the center of the circulation, as you can see, and the outer bands, this is what i popped up here, about an inch and a quarter to an inch and a third per hour. this is the border, you can see the border between the two areas, texas and also louisiana right there. and that's where we're going to be dealing with as far as the heavy rain in that area. let's take a quick look at what's going to happen as far as the bigger picture. you can see the rain moving up into alabama right now. and as we're going to show you in a second, alabama was possibly going to see flooding also. my main concern moving forward will be alabama, arkansas, mississippi, tennessee, right there in the mississippi river valley, and then heading up towards the ohio river valley. that's where we could see some flooding. we

we kick it off with mike nicco. >> hi, everybody. the marine layer is a lot thinner. at least not as tall as it was yesterday. that means the clouds are closer to the ground. you can see they're having a hard time getting over the east bay hills. mostly cloudy everywhere except for there. and up in the nappy valley, you can see the clouds hovering over downtown san francisco from our camera at pier 15. temperatures about the same this morning, 57 to 62. our top line is the inland neighborhoods, 78 at noon to 85 at 4:00, to about 75, comfortable at 7:00. 72 to 75, that's noon to 4:00 around the bay. and at the coast, we'll be around 60 to 61 degrees. let's get a check of the morning commute. here's alexis. >> we're doing okay, especially if you're traveling through the bay bridge toll plaza. no major issues yet. starting to fill in in the cash lanes on the right-hand side. we have a little ways to go here before we have those metering lights flipped on. drive times looking good too. highway 4 to the maze, it we were going to be in the yellow, it would be here. we're st

right now our meteorologist mike nicco is tracking the storm as well. he's here now with a closer look at the impact. mike? >> kristen, hi, everybody. we'll go straight to live doppler 7 and zoom down on the texas coast there. you can see the circulation is just about to come out over the water once again, and it's close enough now that it's picking up that noich and hurling those heavy thunderstorms into louisiana. really worried about the southern half of louisiana as we go through the next couple of days because of the cold front you see coming down from the high plains. that's going to slowly nudge, and i mean slowly nudge what's left of harvey which will be a tropical storm which means we'll have winds faster than 39 miles per hour, but it's the rain that it's going to dump, and you can see by thursday morning it's just passing through the througe shreveport/bosier area and then accelerating off to memphis and another foot of rain is possible. back here at home, our own issues to deal with. most of us around the bay shore and north bay under a heat

. >> meteorologist mike nicco is tracking hurricane harvey as it is barrels towards the coast. mike is here with another look. >> hi, kristen. we'll show you what's going on with satellite and radar to give you an idea of how gynormous this storm is. nearly 415 miles across as it goes from the rio grande irveil all the way up to almost baton rouge, louisiana. rainfall estimates already, about 8.5 around the center to 4.5 in bay city which is well far away from the center there in the upper center part of your television screen to nearing an inch in core puts kristi, and those are going to rapidly increase. right now the storm surge is about 2 feet. it's going to get up to about 12 feet, and it's expected to stay elevated for days. fresh water flooding because of the possibility of up to 35, nearly 3 feet of rain and tornadoes are going to be possible also. there are going to be towns that are going to be you be inhabitable for days to even weeks. the storm should crash sometime during our evening, say around 7:00 to 9:00 with major, major hurricane force winds of around 115 to

we start with meteorologist mike nicco. >> a little slow because of drizzle and cloud cover out there, but great sleeping weather once again last night. if you can pull the covers out, head outside, you have about a 22-mile-per-hour wind at fairfield. it's going to be a day where the sea breeze dominates our forecast once again. the drizzle a little more widespread this morning. temperatures about the same as yesterday on your 12-day planner. 58 to 63. let's start with the top temperatures, inland. 75 at noon, 82 at 4:00. comfortable 74 at 4:00. 70 to 74 around the bay to 69 at 7:00, and low 60s for the better part of the afternoon and evening in our coastal communities. all right, we'll take a look at what's going to happen with the drizzle coming up next. here's alexis. >> pretty quiet on the roads. here's a quick check of the bay bridge toll plaza, and very light volume so far. no metering lights. we should have 20, 25 minutes before we get those flipped on. mike mentioned the day game for the a's and giants. extra traffic around both of the ballparks and will affect mass transit.

abc 7 news meteorologist mike nicco is tracking the hot temperatures. >> hi, matt. hi, everybody. starts with our lows this morning. supposed to be 52 to 58 and lock at the 60s and 70s we had for lows. some of them without air conditioning. not cooling off during the overnight. that's why the heat advisory continued through this evening until 9:00 for the higher elevations where we're dealing with this heat for about the third day in a row. let me break down your 12-hour day plan to give you an idea what to expect out of the rest at noon, 66 at the coast and near 80 inland. we're going to be mostly cloudy, and that's the key. that's why temperatures won't be quite as hot as yesterday. we just don't have the sunshine, but we do have a little bit of humidity out there, and that's going to make it feel just as warm, and it also puts a threat of a thunderstorm in the forecast. i'll have more of that coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> reporter: track today's hot weather with the accuweather app. it's free. search accuweather in the app store to download it. >>> develop

. >> yes, meteorologist mike nicco bringing the heat. >> yes. we have going to bring it, and we're going to bring a touch of humidity also. here, this looks familiar, doesn't it? this is a typical spot for the morning. golden gate bridge, you can see the wind blowing about 12 miles per hour from west to east and trying to make a late surge of fog. but it's the high clouds and the storm threat that really what gets my attention today. that will linger into tonight, keeping us mild to warm, just like this morning, and nothing to stress about as we head through the extended forecast. right now, our best radar returns, a little around palo alto, but the best ones are over the ocean. with the heating of the day, you get the boy nlsy in the atmosphere, we could see some of the storms develop. we have high pressure in the clockwise flow to the north, low pressure with this counterclockwise flow to the northwest, that's pulling all that moisture across our neighborhoods. we just need the sun to heat us up and then we'll see a storm or two this afternoon
