i'm anne makovec. >> i'm kenny choi. we have some breaking news right now from the east bay. several lanes of i-80 in crockett are closed after a big rig crashed. this fire near the carquinez bridge. >> this is on eastbound 80 near crockett. kpix 5's jessica flores is live at the scene with more. >> reporter: we are actually on the cummings skyway on-ramp to 80. this on-ramp is closed which is why we are able to be on it. but i want to show you the backup. you can see several cars -- dozens of cars moving at a snail's pace right now. it was at a dead stop about 10 minutes ago. one lane has been open now which is why the traffic is moving a little bit. but this entire backup right before the carquinez bridge on the eastbound lanes is due to a truck, a big rig, got on fire with flames engulfing the truck. you can see the carquinez bridge in the background. that person taking video is heard saying that that fire was getting hotter. it's unclear if anyone was inside that big rig. meanwhile, cars were slowly driving by as that backup started. some drivers tweeted that the crash an

i'm kenny choi.t over daca a program to help immigrants who were brought to the country illegal as children. jackie ward explains why states are taking legal action against the trump administration. >>> reporter: 7 states altogether. texas is leading the way but it has the support from alabama, arkansas, louisiana, nebraska, south carolina and west virginia. the lawsuit may be what it takes for the issue to face the supreme court as it challenges the lawfulness of daca. it claims that the creation of daca in 2012 violated the constitution and federal law. because of that, the lawsuit calls on the federal government to stop issuing an renewing daca permits. it's a program that protects 700,000 immigrants from being deported. those against the lawsuit say that our country needs to be more welcoming. >> regardless of what religion you believe, regardless of what your citizenship status, regardless of what language you speak, you have a right to be here. you're part of our community. you're part of this

. >> good morning, i'm kenny choi. kpix 5's jessica flores joins us live. >> reporter: this is one of the largest strikes in uc history and dozens of folks are already here on uc berkeley's campus. you can see them behind me on the picket line. they have their noise makers, signs and t-shirts. they're ready to walk off the job for two more days after today after what they say are pay disparities. contract negotiations have stalled with the largest union, the federation of state, county and municipal employees. that's the folks on the picket line right here. they're service workers, gardeners and other workers. in total about 50,000 uc workers across 10 campuses will be on strike over what they say is widening gender, racial and income -- 24,000 workers on strike are patient and service workers, 14,000 are nurses and 15,000 are health care research and technical workers. ucfs says it rescheduled 300 surgeries for cancer patients. we spoke to a woman out on the picket line this morning. she's been working at cal for two

i'm kenny choi.ay officials will vote on a new statewide effort to combat greenhouse gas emissions. jessica flores reports. >> reporter: they are hoping to combat greenhouse gas emissions bee requiring new homes and apartments to install -- by requiring new homes and apartments to install solar packages. in fremont they already require new buildings to have solar panels. and the state may soon be following fremont's footsteps. regulators are meeting today to vote on that measure and they are expected to approve requiring new apartments and houses to have solar panels by january 2020. it could reduce greenhouse gases and may save money in the long run. the energy saved would total $16,000 but it would take 30 areas to recoup the cost. it will cost homeowners about $10,000 more up front. >> in the long run it will pay for itself. >> reporter: these new regulations must still be approved by the california building standards commission and if the rules go through today, they still have to -- they won't g

. >> i'm kenny choi. >>> a backup is causing some headaches for drivers. right now we have live team coverage. kpix 5's jaclyn dunn is tracking those delays. but first, jessica flores is live near the scene near the carquinez bridge. >> reporter: this is a very serious crash here. only one lane is now open. so there's still a backup here if you head into the carquinez bridge here. i want to show you what's going on right now. crews are trying to clean up the mess left behind. two lanes essentially blocked from this crash. that big rig, you can see in the distance, totally burned- out. the trailer right now on a tow truck flatbed. chp tells us the driver lost control and the truck rolled over before it went up in flames. now, no other vehicles were involved. take a look at the video. this one posted on twitter. it shows flames engulfing the truck. chp tells us that there was a driver inside when the flames started. but a good samaritan driving behind the truck got out. chp says that second driver saved the truck driver's life. >> the driver was pulled from
