abc 7 news reporter matt keller has arrived on the scene. that backup not looking like a lot of fun, matt. >> welcome to a frustrating friday. check it out. this is a parking lot also known as westbound 580 in pleasanton-dublin area. close to the 680 interchange. a few miles away from where this big rig overturned on 580. you can see traffic is not moving at all. this happened about 4:55 this morning. let's show you as we move across the overpass. you can see all the red lights. more vehicles stuck in traffic. a big rig overturned on westbound 580 just east of eden canyon road. that big rig weighs about 30,000 pounds. it will be quite an effort to get it out of there. all lanes blocked for about 45 minutes. the good news, only one lane is now blocked. you can see traffic has not begun to flow here in the pleasanton area. we're several miles away. it's going to take a while before you get this all cleared out. my advice for anybody out there who does not want to sit in traffic like this is just to avoid the area altogether. >>> the lawyers fo

abc 7 news reporter matt keller is at the offices in redwood city, matt? >> reporter: well, reggie, cocoa was a star. she was in several documentaries and was on the cover of "national geographic" two times. the gorilla foundation said her legacy will live on. cocoa, the gorilla, brought joy to many people, including celebrities like robin williams and flee, face for the red hot chili peppers. sadly, she passed in her sleep tuesday at the age of 46. the western lowland gorilla was born july 4th, 197 is 1 at the san francisco zoo. in 1972 dr. penny patterson taught cocoa sign language and eventually established the gorilla foundation and moved to the santa cruz mountains. she learned to ice over 1,000 signs and seemed to understand approximately 2,000 spoken >> put it on your head. oh, put the kitty on the head. yes, that's what you wanted. >> reporter: the gorilla foundation released a statement overnight saying cocoa touched lives of millions as an ambassador for all gorillas and icon for interspecies communication and empathy. she was beloved and will be

matt keller has been at the scene all morning. what's happening now, matt? >> reporter:a,ood morninyen th found three major crime scenes in union city. in is on railroad avenue. amazingly, no one was kileio co. the evidence is clear in union city. this was a shootout. >> just sounded like gunfire, and in our minds, like, 25 rounds or more. >> reporter: union city police say officers tried to pull over a vehicle with three juveniles inside it around 11:35 last night. that's when they exchanged gunfire. six officers fired weapons, and one suspect was hit. >> scary for everybody involved. we're fortunate that none of our officers were hurt or killed during this incident. >> reporter: one suspect drove the car a few blocks away to railroad avenue. there, we found a toyota camry with bullet holes in the windows and along the trunk. a van with police lights had what appeared to be bullet holes in the windshield. all three suspects ran into the surrounding neighborhoods. near e street, another crime scene with several evidence markers, a police shield, and blood on

abc 7 news reporter matt keller is on capitol expressway. last time we checked in with you, the road there was still closed off. any updates? >> reporter: good morning, jeic he in capilexpressway. you can see firefighters are cleaning up the oil that was now on the back of a tow truck. you can see just how much damage was done to the front of that vehicle there. it's a nissan sentra. i'll have my photographer ian move the camera over to the fire engine. you can see the damage there. i'm told this engine is going to be able to drive off. get this. this truck weighs 44,000 pounds, the nissan sentra weighs 3,000 pound, but still able to move that engine two feet when it crashed into it this morning. all this started when firefighters were called about 2:30 for a vegetation fire off capitol expressway. the engineer for engine 24 was putting out more cones and lights in the road as three other firefighters were battling that fire. that's when that nissan sentra sped through the cone zone. the engineer had to jump out of the way and the car slamme

matt keller live for us on vine street this morning. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. what a mess out here on vine street at edwards avenue. you can see they had one of the vehicles on the back of a tow truck. they have three other vehicles here that were damaged overnight and they are working to get all these cars removed or at least out of the way so they can open back up vine street here in downtown san jose. seven vehicles involved in this. it happened just before 1:00 this morning. police say a pickup truck crashed into another car causing a chain reaction that led to three parked vehicles being hit there. the victim's vehicle, a black lexus, was heavily damaged. firefighters had to extricate him from the car. they were able to take him away on a stretcher. a block away the suspect's vehicle crashed into two more parked cars. the driver was arrested for hit-and-run. another passenger took off. police say they know who he is. a female passenger was also injured. the injuries of the two people are considered serious but

abc 7 news reporter matt keller live at mineta san jose. good morning, matt. >> good morning, natasha and reggie. yes, powder. starting today, the tsa will be educating the passengers about its current policy here in the u.s. that's been in place since last summer and also the changes coming for people flying internationally. who is going to be impacted by this new rule? >> according to "usa today" the tsa will require that flights start taking a closer look at powders starting on june 30th. the tsa has been doing that in the u.s. since last summer. cosmetics, baby powder, protein, energy mixes. the focus is on containers about the size of a can of soda. the main concern is for improvised explosives, but they're also concerned about things like as f pepper spray. tsa officials told "usa today" this isn't a ban. they gave this example. they don't want travelers returning with a large container of moroccan spice rather than the checked coverage. the best advice, pack that powder in your checked luggage. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 ne
