( darya ) happening today. teachers and staff members at several schools in oakland will go on a one day strike for better pay. the event being called a "sickout" to protest the slow pace of contract talks between the district and union. the two sides have been negotiating for a year and a half. teachers say they are fed up with low pay and underfunded classrooms. this protest is not sanctioned by their union ... but they understand the frustrations.
