awareness of san francisco's transgender communities. we have the opportunity today to celebrate the contributions of extraordinary trans san franciscans through today's first ever board of supervisors transawareness month special commendations. now to be honest, it should not have taken us this long. 53 years ago, a group of trans women and drag queens led one of the first documents lgbt up risings. we now have the country's first ever transgender cultural district located in supervisor haney's district which encompassed the site of the riots and other locations.

it has been in san francisco for as long as san francisco goodwill has been in san francisco. who knew that, right? we have both been here for over 100 years. this building has been a parking garage, it has been an art gallery, and now it is home to a training and community center for this community to participate, share, and learn. i want to take a quick moment to introduce our board chair. he served on the board for almost three years. he has been an influential entrepreneur. he is a philanthropist, a volunteer, and a compassionate human being. i just want to introduce eric. [applause] >> the hon. london breed: we understand, more than anyplace else, despite the differences that we may have, that our diversity is our strength. that is what

in fact, san francisco does an incredible job. we serve over 30,000 people in our behavioral health system. but in that 30,000, we know that there are 4,000 that are dual diagnosed and are struggling with homelessness and we know that we have to do better. this is why so many people are frustrated. not only the people working in our public health system, but people who are the ones who are sadly out there and need our assistance and need us to do better. today with this compromise we are proposing to do better. mental health s.f. is going to be a program that is going to be settled at the board of supervisors with a number of compromises to make the right kinds of investments in the people that serve those with behavioral health challenges and expanding our mental health beds and to work with the community to get community input on changes and making sure that we are collaborating every step of the way. and let me be clear, this will be an expensive program and we will know it. i have made a commitment along with the members of th

they took the kids everywhere around san francisco. this year, owner talking about placing them in summer camps, all he wanted to do was spend the entire summer with them. >> he has strong women in his life, so he really appreciates it. i think that carries through and i appreciate the fact that there are more strong women in the world like that. >> i met d'andrea 25 years ago, and we met through our interest in karate. our professor started on cortland years ago, so we grew up here at this location, we out -- he outgrew the space and he moved ten years later. he decided to reopen this location after he moved. initially, i came back to say, hey, because it might have been 15 years since i even put on a uniform. my business partner was here basically by herself, and the person she was supposed to run the studio with said great, you are here, i started new -- nursing school so you can take over. and she said wait, that is not what i am here for i was by myself before -- for a month before she came through. she was technically here as a s

with this ordinance, it will now be the policy of the city and county of san francisco and the san francisco police department to actively seek a gun violence restraining order whenever appropriate to disarm those who would harm themselves or others and to give those who would be victims of crime every advantage of making sure they have all tools to protect themselves. the final step to ensuring this policy has the maximum impact is to work with all of our community partners and the public about the availability of gvros. we must educate hospitals, community health organizations, all of our nonprofits and all of our city departments about this new policy. women, peers, colleagues, and victims of violence no longer need to suffer under the threat of someone with a firearm, and everyone needs to know about this legislation. there is no single way to win the fight against the gun violence epidemic plaguing this nation, but we will not win unless we urgently pass legislation needed to prevent gun violence and swiftly implement all policies. i also want to thank senator nancy skinner for sponsori

i'm a san francisco resident of d9 and i'm here with the san francisco aids foundation and advocacy network. i wanted to talk briefly about the city's commitment to getting to zero. zero hiv transmissions, zero hiv related deaths and stigma. this is an issue that impacts all of us. i particularly wanted to lift up people living with hiv and mental health care needs. people who are here and around in sanfrancisco when the epidemic first hit experienced a lot of trauma and lost a lot of their social support networks and to this day, they have a lot of really complex pyschosocial needs, including access to mental health services. they fought for future generations to be able to survive. and now, it's our turn to fight and to support them. we can't get to zero unless we address this crisis. part of that is acknowledging there are dozens people who die every year by suicide and that's unacceptable. i wanted to talk briefly about people who use drugs and how they deserve nonjudgmental services. many experience a lot of trauma on the street and oftentimes use substances to survive. every year we s

i am a san francisco resident. i work with allied mechanical crafts and i'm here in support of this 65 ocean project. before coming here i took a look at what housing costs are like the neighborhood. as you can see, someone can zoom in, it's virtually all single family homes over $1 million. you know, first i think we need to commend all of the folks that are coming here to tell you about the needs for affordable housing in the neighborhood. it is clearly there. there's no question about it. as the same time we heard in the early part of the presentation today, there has not been any construction in the neighborhood for years and this is the i live in bayview hunters point try to have a house on the street for me that is being rented out for $9,000 a month. this is something like one of these. continuing to reject projects like this one that are on effectively vacant land that are replacing and providing space for a childcare facility that are creating a real career opportunities for union construction workers. no

, and stay right here in san francisco. sf made really provides wraparound resources for manufacturers that sets us apart from other small business support organizations who provide more generalized support. everything we do has really been developed over time by listening and thinking about what manufacturer needs grow. for example, it would be traditional things like helping them find capital, provide assistance loans, help to provide small business owners with education. we have had some great experience doing what you might call pop ups or temporary selling events, and maybe the most recent example was one that we did as part of sf made week in partnership with the city seas partnership with small business, creating a 100 company selling day right here at city hall, in partnership with mayor lee and the board of supervisors, and it was just a wonderful opportunity for many of our smaller manufacturers who may be one or two-person shop, and who don't have the wherewithal to have their own dedicated retail store to show t

i am ellen bray, principal of kipp san francisco bay academy. i am a resident of san francisco. i am proud of the families and students and colleagues we meet the application. since 2003 our school has had a strong commitment to the community working with the city. many of them are here tonight. i ask them to stand up. (applause). despite the rapidly changing landscape of the city it is a constant. student population has remained stable. 84% qualify for free and reduced lunch. 32% are english language learners. kipp's academic performance is with or higher than state schools. they are prepared for high school. over the last five years we demonstrated growth we will continue to improve. thank you for taking into account the perspectives to renew our petition. you know, a huge amount of san francisco are renters. i'm a renter and i have lived here for 20 years. and i've only had landlords that don't care about tenants or the property. i pay the energy bill. so there's really no incentive for my landlord to actually pursue the single point of contact or any of these incentives or spending any money at all because i pay the bill. so i wanted to just highlight that i don't think that really any discussions that i hear at the district or in the city around energy efficiency really look at the actual way that the economic incentives are laid out for folks. none of this is going to accomplish anything except for folks in san francisco or maybe out in the outer richmond or sunset where they own their homes. as far as the solar plus storage, we're regional organization with lots of folks in the north bay and, you know, they are taking this seriously in a much more intense way than we are because of both the fire impact and the power shutoff impacts they've had. i would say with the utility negligence

i want to change the future of san francisco, and changing the future of san francisco starts today. it starts with making sure that anyone in this room who came for a second chance or an opportunity or a career change or anything else for that nature that you have an opportunity walking out this door to do whatever it is you want to do. that is what today is about. i want to thank the public defender's office for being here as well. they are here to talk to anyone who, for example, may have challenges with their past and need some assistance inning what to do. they are here to work with you on record expunging and whatever you need. we have done a lot of things in the city. let me break it down so you can understand some of the laws that, basically, that we got rid of to make it easier to get rid of barriers to employment. when you say you don't have a driver's license or you have something on your record or owe some money. in san francisco we have given everyone a clean slate so you can get your license without paying excessive fees. go and check that. i am really proud we have bee

i am here as a citizen of san francisco. i fully support the comments just made by the attorney who spoke to you a few moments ago. i park on gilbert street and have for the last 19 years. i am well acquainted with the woman who i rent my parking space from, and she has told me many times how she would have to suffer the burdens of this name change. i fully agree that naming the public defender building after mr. adachi would be wholly appropriate and, frankly, would not be a burden on anyone. i would also point out that it's my belief, and i know this from contact with san francisco police department officers, that the circumstances that brought about the tragic and terrible demise of mr. adachi was not all together clear to the public. i'm well aware of what actually happened, and i believe that naming a street for mr. adachi is actually in furtherance of that effort by this city to conceal what actually happened. he deserved to be recognized for his fine work. there's no question about that, but certainly not by naming th

the san francisco model of h.i.v. care was innovated by a city that had been abandoned by the federal government to deal with really challenging public health crises here at the local level and although we were angry , and many of the folks here protested the federal government's inaction in the department of public health, and other city agencies, and in our nonprofit partners, we innovated and we created a san francisco model of care that has now resulted in new h.i.v. infections dropping below 200 for the first time. that is amazing. we will get to zero, but the fact we were able to do it there gives me hope we can do it here with our behavioral health services. and dr. bland will get us there. thank you, again, mayor breed for all of your work and all of these behavioral health issues. it can't be done in a day, but you have not rested a day since you have started. i am grateful for that. i want to thank my cochair, i want to thank the d.p.h. staff who work so hard on running these all of the members to do such ex
