there is a wind advisory for part of the bay area. it's the north bay. from 8:00 this morning through 4:00 in the afternoon we could see gusts that 40 miles an hour here. if we play this on future cast watch the bright red spots in the afternoon. focused along the coast and in the mountains. mostly in the north bay. gusts to near 40 miles an hour at times. once we get past sunset the wind will calm down and it won't be an issue. that covers the first issue. the second one is the rain. let's time that out. here comes the first chance for rain friday night. at 9:00 we start to see the leading edge of the showers arrived for the far north bay. advancing that through the overnight into very early saturday morning is when we see some of the best rain. that gets us to just before 4:00 saturday morning. noticed a pattern here. it's mainly focused on the north bay. not too terribly heavy. it will be enough that we notice rain. we could get maybe a quarter of an inch of rain out of that. that's friday night through saturday morning. and then a little bit of a bre

specifically the north bay coast in the north bay mountains. we could see gusts up to 45 miles an hour today between 8:00 this morning and 4:00 this afternoon. particularly windy day. not down along the major core doors, not in santa rosa and petaluma you should be back, but up along the mountains and the coast. here comes issue two. let's time out the rain. by the time we have got to friday night, this is tomorrow night, leading edge of the showers arrives. mainly focused on the north bay. it will be done by the time we get into saturday. most of saturday we should get a little bit of a break. late saturday a second system will come through and keep the showers going into sunday. it doesn't look like a soaker, but it certainly looks like measurable rain for the north bay. specifically, getting into saturday morning and again sunday through the heart of the day. bay areawide we could see some showers from that as well. shouldn't be a whole lot. most of it will be north bay stuff. low to mid 60s today. pretty much the general rule. you can see w

bay just a few hundredths of an inch of rain although been out of there in the north bay has already picked up over 2 >>we're getting more on the way tonight, the clouds are already beginning to roll in outside, but we're waiting for the main event that likely to move in right about midnight tonight. that's when this thing comes roaring in and then you start to see some moderate to maybe some heavy amounts of rainfall moving on through kind of fast mover through the night tonight. so i think the worst coming overnight tonight and tapering off you can see couple scattered light showers outside right now the most that in the north bay and also rain you see the rain moving through in that direction just very light at this time but that's going to change overnight tonight, the scattered showers and then we start to gain the colors and there you can see by just after midnight, some moderate amounts some heavy amounts of rainfall moving in there and that's sweeping across the bay area about one 45 2 o'clock in the morning right through the heart of the bay area sliding in the south bay and

it starts in the north bay. by early afternoon it has finally started to work its way to the golden gate and it will then rain from the golden gate southward from early afternoon on. it's going to take time before it gets down to the peninsula and certainly the south bay. we don't really start to see rain in the south bay until the mid afternoon today. that's really the bulk of it. once we get passed mid afternoon, we have seen 90% of the rain. there will be isolated scattered showers that come with this over night but the bulk is in the afternoon. let's talk about rainfall totals. highest amounts are in the north bay. notice how numbers get smaller the further south you go. by the time you have gotten to nevada it's only .2. there is concord with less than a tenth. that is a theme we will see in the south bay. most spots from the city peninsula south bay east bay, you are getting less than a tenth of an inch of rain. so it rains but it doesn't necessarily rain a whole lot. it will get windy as the cold front co

double that up in the north bay. we'll talk about what that means for the morning commute coming up. i know jobina is keeping an eye on this morning and tomorrow when it's wetter. how are we doing today, jobina? >> today is looking great. let's take it before all that rain comes through. good morning. thank you. so we will begin with a live look showing off emeryville. 80, not too bad. you can see those headlights making their way westbound. you know, look at the sensors from the toll plaza. no meeting lights on. there it's been a clear morning. moving over to our 880 at the coliseum camera in oakland. you can see what is happening. it's really just been -- there we go. i can see it now. i'm on a delay here. headlights are making their way southbound. so that's what we have going on in the traffic front. as i head out here, i will leave you with an overall picture of the map. if you are leaving your home in the bay area, you can see that it is pretty much clear unless you're coming out of than a holiday dinner table.

more of these 40s over the east bay, san francisco and the north bay. we can all handle this. we've had our jackets out for weeks, so we're good to go on that. what i want to change your attention to right now is a very weak system passing on by tomorrow. looks like it's really going to break up as it gets here from this area of high pressure to the south. high pressure always breaks up storm systems, so that, again, breaking this up. i think we'll only be left with a spotty drizzle chance tomorrow night. let me show you that better on my futurecast. you can see as that system approaches, we get some high clouds increasing tomorrow afternoon. so it's more of that filtered sunshine here from the north bay to the south bay. and then as we hit the evening hours, it's not much, but by the northern coast, we'd see a chance of some of that spotty drizzle. i even think down to about san francisco and the peninsula, we'd have a slight chance as well. temperatures tomorrow just a little bit here. i see some slight cooling as that cloud cover moves in. we'll be at 65 in livermore. 63 in

yep, the rain moved to parts of the north bay and round two starts today, moving through the bay area from north to south. you can take a look at live doppler 7 and see where the rain is falling right now over parts of the bay area and this will start to slide south throughout the day. light to moderate rain expected. live view as we look out from emeryville, your day planner at 7:00 this morning, temperatures in the 40s and 50s. widespread rain. it will be breezy in the hills, and then this afternoon, most temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, so cooler day. showers will be tapering off and then tonight, mostly dry, but we'll still see lingering chances as the system exits the bay area. it does mean snow in the sierra and i'll talk about that as well as a coastal flood advisory and high surf advisory coming up. >> frances, thank you. >>> the first doses of pfizer's covid-19 vaccine will soon be on the way to california and the bay area. earlier this morning, the first doses of the vaccine were loaded into boxes at the pfizer facility in kalamazoo, michigan. this is still happening ri

bay where all across the entirety of the north bay were under red flag warnings and wind advisories both until 05:00pm tonight, the inland east bay also affected by these red flag warnings as is the san mateo coastline, including areas like pacifica half moon bay. so these areas right here exposed to some of the strongest of winds gusting regularly up to 45 miles per hour. peak, wind gusts and more exposed areas mountaintops as high as 60 miles per hour speaking of air quality though, at least we have seen the past couple of days in that regard we had a spare the air alert on saturday, some of our worst air quality we've seen in a while those winds are starting to mix out some of those por smoggy conditions that we had been seeing so there is improvement in that regard this morning and we will be looking at a much better day ahead of us to as far as air quality conditions are concerned forecast shows that today we remain sunny and dry we're going to stay that way in future cast all the way through this week, lots of sunshine temperatures well above average for this time of year. and

in the morning, top wind gusts across the north bay. notice how they really start to drop off as we head towards 5:00 in the evening when the red flag warning should expire. similar for the central bay and south bay. we have top wind gusts around diab low range and santa cruz mountains at sun advise. as we head through the afternoon, if there is any good news about this red flag warning, it should not last all that long as the wind speeds start to drop off. keep an eye on the forecast wednesday into thursday as we see a system to the north. chances are we could see another surge of north winds. i think there's going to be two windows for this. one we're seeing now, and potentially another one for thursday. but perhaps better news. if you look at this map heading into next weekend for a change, finally some chances for finding some rain getting closer to the bay area, and not really enough yet to put in the seven-day forecast. so as we head towards next weekend, increase in clouds, and i think at least for the north bay, by the time we g

that we could get some drizzle in the north bay. first things first, let's talk about the daytime highs. temperatures in the low to mid 60s in this afternoon so we're a few degrees cooler than yesterday. now, another thing to keep in mind, spare the air alert is in effect for today. no wood burning allowed, we have unhealthy air quality in the north bay and the south bay expected for today. notice the time bar in the corner. we have the increase in cloud cover so we're starting out pretty clear and then that green that you see there is the possibility of seeing a little bit of rain mainly though drizzle for portions of the north bay. the rest of the bay area is going to remain dry. no measurable amounts of rain expected out of this system. just an increase in that cloud cover which is good because it will help sort of track us back up into our humidity. so it will help up bring up the humidity because as you know we have been dry. we are in need of the rain and then we have a chance coming tomorrow night and that's going to kick up

so in other words, another spare the air alert north bay, and south bay. could experience the worst air quality. live doppler 7, it is mostly clear, and as we look at the wider perspective there's some clouds offshore. the tail end of this system will move into northern california and we could see just a splash, maybe a few sprinkles, some drizzle overnight. it is 38 in campbell right now. 39 in sunnyvale. mountain view, 37 for you. and as we look at the rest of the bay area, chilly conditions inland, around livermore, also in the north bay, add in a slight wind and it feels like it's either in the upper 20s or low 30s there with that air temperature of 34 in novato, 36 in livermore, and looking at 49 san francisco, 50 in alameda. so about a 14 to 15 degree spread this morning so we've got our spare the air alert today with the poor air quality north bay, santa clara valley and then things improve as the winds arrive tomorrow, and this will take us through the rest of the week, in fact temperatures warming for december standards monday into tuesday, the wa

low to mid 60s for the east bay shore, south bay, north bay and east bay. rain is on the way for the weekend. we'll talk more about it coming up. reggie? >> happening now, a major moment in the effort to end the pandemic. the fda advisory committee is meeting to decide if pfizer's coronavirus vaccine should be approved. jobina is tracking that from the live desk. >> good morning. the advisory committee meeting just began minutes ago. this is a live picture of that meeting. the panel expected to vote on emergency use authorization this morning and the fda will give final approval shortly after that. before that approval, there's that side effect that is likely to be the topic of discussion. we told you about this yesterday morning. out of thousands in the uk who received the shot, two people, both health care workers, had allergic reactions and recovered. research shows that the vaccine is 95% effective. when the fda signs off, 2.9 million doses will be sent out across the country within 24 hours. >> there's much more to learn here, we're operating under dif

look at the north bay. we could see about half an inch of rain or more as you go farther to the north. with the next round of rain coming in between sunday night and monday, we could see some additional rainfall totals in all, about a quarter inch of rain for parts of the south bay and east bay, about half inch of rain for the coast and a little bit higher as we look at the north bay. for sierra snow, it's not looking as impressive at the initial runs, up to close to a foot in kingsvale. we do need all this rain and snow. we are in an extreme drought that continues for the north bay while much of the rest of the bay area is in a severe drought. so we'll be watching out for all of those rain chances going into the next several days. hopefully, it does help us out. with our christmas rain coming in, our temperatures will cool off. look at next week. we're only looking at highs in the low 50s in san francisco, as well as the inland areas. marcus? >> thanks, kari. >>> coming up for you, newborns are celebrating

look at the north bay, lower 40s now. that's a ten degree warm up from where you have been for each of the last several mornings. it feels better to step outside in the north bay. it doesn't feel that different anywhere else. we'll watch for patchy fog for the first part of this morning. concord, livermore, inland valleys of east bay could see some of the fog. let's talk about the rain. first line gets here by late morning in north bay. here we are at 11:00 noticing light showers in santa rosa. by 1:00, it is focused primarily on north bay. sonoma, marin, look at the line about to come through the golden gate and work across the bay area. early afternoon, we should notice the rain. by late afternoon it is finally raining in the south bay. i don't think we will get a lot, maybe a tenth of an inch of rain. we could see a half inch in the north bay. scattered showers will stay with us. once it starts you will get breaks but there is a possibility for rain from early this afternoon all the way to early saturday morning. if we

in the south bay, santa cruz mountains, less across the north bay. things are start to dry out once we pass lunchtime tomorrow. the rain projections at least of the storm still highest for the santa cruz mountains and areas south of san jose. so morgan hill, santa cruz, down towards salinas, probably getting more out of the system than areas north of san francisco. round two comes in for wednesday into thursday. that two weeks will be a relatively light rain event as futurecast shows. most locations showing less than a quarter inch. other chances, next weekend, couple things going for this set up. it's longer lasting and we'll have a chance of tapping at times into an atmospheric river. parts of the north bay, rain totals can start to add up between saturday and sunday. as you look at the seven-day forecast, again, not a big impact out of the storm unless you're in the santa cruz mountains. and that, too, those totals will come down quite a bit. i don't think we'll see burn or debris issues from burn scars for this particular storm. same for the mid

and it is basically here in the north bay. where we have got the last of the showers just kind of hanging on. those are probably even barely noticeable on 101 near cloverdale. it is mainly rain in the mountains. there is still a possibility especially if we watch the futurecast which picks up on that rain. we'll see a few showers fall apart. by the time we get to 9:00 notary public morning. there will be a new crop of clouds that shows up as we get into the early afternoon. for the most part, we'll see plenty of blue skies today and we wait. watch. we get out of the way. there goes most of sunday and it is just clouds. all of a sudden showing up on the far edge of the screen would be sunday's rain. much more on that coming up in the complete forecast. as far as saturday is concerned with breaks of blue sky. we go to near 60 for the daytime high. if you are wondering how we did with rainfall, depends on where you are. we got a lot in the north bay. santa rosa got an inch. san francisco got four tenths of an inch of rain. if you

notice the north bay not seeing a lot. north bay breezes helping eat the rain. it evaporates it a lot of times aloft. we don't see big totals with this storm or the storm that will likely arrive late wednesday into thursday. right now new year's eve the evening part of thursday looks dry. rain totals generally less than 0.1 inch of rain. next weekend could be interesting as we see the weather pattern setting up that could tap into multiple atmospheric river type set-ups over the next ten days so the rain now between now and new year's eve doesn't look that big but watch as we jump the forecast forward ten days. red and purple on the north coast, mend sinno county, parts of sonoma county could involve 2 to 3 inches or more rainfall and that could be aiming in on us midway through next weekend. stay tuned. short term chilly with showers early in the day tomorrow. another mainly luight rain even wednesday night into thursday. things may get more interesting next weekend as that could become the gateway to more strong storms with the atmospheric river connection tha

highest totals will be at elevation in the north bay. places could see an inch and a half like mount tam. probably about a half inch in san francisco that we could see. and then as we move for the to the south bay, you can see it starts to get a little lower. but still a widespread rain would be so welcome. so i'm so happy to see this on the weekend. some of this is virga is not necessarily hitting the ground this. is sprinkles rolling through kind of moving in towards san francisco. and again, it's part of a bigger system. look to the north of us. kind of interesting to see. there's a little snow on the mountaintops to the north and northern california. this is the big system that is offshore. and essentially, we're in the warm sector of the warm front that is passing through now. but ultimately, when you get in through saturday, it's going to be the storm tracker. live look outside. you certainly see some of those clouds out there. and we are looking at san francisco, where it's 50 degrees. oakland, 55. livermore, 53. and san jose, rou

some upper 50s along the north bay coasts. morgan hill at 70. tonight, 34 in santa rosa the cool spot. most of us in the mid to upper 30s in our inland valleys. low to mid 40s around the bay and the coast. look for more fog and low clouds tomorrow morning. you can see an active eastern pacific satellite and the systems are starting to slide southward in latitude which means the storm track is getting closer to us. so as we cool back to average levels the next couple of days, the pacific is going to be sending us a storm first saturday mainly a warm front which will bring light gradual rain to the north bay and sunday the second part of that storm will be a cold frond that will bring all of us rain, heaviest in the north bay, tapering as it slides south into the south bay. possible couple hundredths of an inch to a quarter of an inch. that's what we need until the burn scars heal. we'll get heavier rain possible on tuesday. >> thank you. >>> we'll turn to ginger zee with a look at what's happening on "gma" this morning at 7:00 a.m. hi, ginger. >>

, then the east bay and very little rainfall is expected up towards the north bay, perhaps nothing up in sonoma, and napa. monday morning scattered showers, but by monday afternoon, wie're back into partly cloudy skies so rainfall amounts from a couple hundredths in the north bay to maybe a tenth as you get closer to the bay, and then along the coast, maybe a quarter to a third of an inch, and you can see all the way down through the santa cruz mountains, the shading creates a higher rainfall totals but still, not very much. as we get into your tuesday, we're dry, and into wednesday, but we're not looking at the typical big ridge of high pressure. we're looking at storms continuing to move in from the west, even though it's maybe just clipping the bay area early new year's eve. still some beneficial light showers, maybe a little bit of light snow. we're dry into the end of the week, and then as we get into next saturday, looking at more shower activity, so that's certainly some good news as we enter into 2021. high temperatures today from the mid-50s to about 60 degrees in fremont, lo

okay, this is starting out in the north bay. if you're in santa rosa you're good for most of the afternoon to get out. we will see clouds rolling by and temperatures only reach into the mid-50s but the rain doesn't get here until around sunset or thereafter so you have time to get in outdoor activities. the evening commute will be pretty sloppy. let's go through when we are expecting heavier rain. not here until later on tonight. i wanted to stop the clock for you at 11:00 tonight. we start to see some of those showers moving on through for the north bay but not into san francisco until about midnight. moving from north-to-south it's late tonight, most of us will be sleeping as this rain moves through. then by the time we wake up tomorrow morning, it's starting to clear out. the roads may still be wet for your morning commute but we going to see bulk of that rain moving off towards the south and east. clearing for tomorrow afternoon. so tomorrow will be another day we can get out and enjoy after getting a nice amount of rain. le

fog up in the north bay in the usual spots. let's talk about your highlights for this forecast period. partly cloudy today. you'll need the sunglasses. a quiet pattern once again. seasonal temperatures tonight as the high clouds blanket us again with patchy fog in the north bay. it will change this weekend. more clouds, a little bit cooler as a cold front gets close. it doesn't bring us rain. what it does do is kick up winds that could cause a heightened fire danger sunday night into monday. right now you can see all that moisture to our west. that is going to head to the north other than a few high clouds. look how close we are to the santa ana wind event. you can see that dry air backing its way from vegas across the high desert and heading towards southern california. that's why they're going to have such a high fire danger today through saturday. back here at home, 61 to 66 our highs today. couple degrees warmer than average. tonight, mid to upper 30s inland. low to mid 40s around the bay. that's close to average. here's my
