what is the white house's reaction? >> reporter: well, the white house is saying very clearly that the fight is not over yet, but it is despite the fact the president just did not pull this off yesterday, despite all of his efforts. remember, this is a man that ran as having the unique ability to bring together the different factions of the parties. the progressives, the moderates, even republicans to bring change to the american people. to bring legislation that impacts their lives. but when he was put to the test yesterday, he now faces this important and really large setback on his agenda as you said. it begs the question of where does the white house go? what does the president do? because, remember, this setback came after president biden put a lot of time, equity into trying to get this done. from white house, oval office meetings to going to congressional baseball game, to his own white house officials, you know, making hundreds of engagements, they said, with lawmakers over time to then camping out at house spea

otherwise those records are going forward and a white house, even the trump white house, keeps records differently than steve bannon does. it is one thing if the courts compel steve bannon and the committee somehow compel steve bannon to either participate or be in trouble or be punished but getting someone to participate doesn't mean that you'll get all the records you want, the information that you want. what could come out of a former white house, a place where government records have been kept, could be much more substantial? >> of course, including not only before, number one, the commit wants to know what was -- how aware it was the former president of who was coming, what their plans were so what did he know on january 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th and lawmakers being rushed out of the capitol and the chambers themselves are under siege and what did the president do. who did he talk to? made a few phone calls to members of congress but a few key details what have trump was doing or not doing, there's still a lot of questions. >> a lot of questions, and if you look at the report that the

how does the white house explain the calculus made in this speech? >> a framework is certainly not a deal and lawmakers have made that clear ever since the president visited house democrats this morning. first saying they wanted to see a text, then saying they wanted to make sure they had assurances of course of the two critical moderate senators who have been at the center of the negotiations, senator manchin and senator sinema. the president was projecting confidence before he left the white house today talking about the negotiating that they've been doing on this which he of course noted had gone on for hours and hours over months and months and saying that this is an agreement where no one is getting everything they want but essentially making the argument that everyone is getting something. what the president announced in the framework from the white house is far from complete because there were several parts not in the white house framework, things democrats have said they'd like to have in there. so the question of how it ultimately ends up wh

this is the framework that the white house is releasing and to be clear, the white house was not assuring reporters this morning as they spoke to us that they have assurances from senator sinema, senator manchin or from any other lawmakers, frankly, but the white house does believe president biden is behind this and they want to make the case to house democrats this morning. they're laying out how they're going to pay for this. they estimate $1.99 trillion, mostly including tax increases on corporations and on the wealthiest americans. 15% minimum tax on large corporations, which we know senator sinema agreed to already. 1% tax on stock buybacks and rate increases on income above $10 million and on income above $25 million. that will still need to be scored by the joint tax committee in order to actually see exactly how much revenue can be taken out of that, but let's be clear, president baiden is taking a risk to go over to the house today to make the case for this, even though there is not yet support from the two moderate senators and certainly not yet from the progressive members of t

the previous white house. with the new subpoena targeting a doj official under trump who was reportedly involved in the former president's robust attempt to overturn our election, jeffrey clark reportedly played a key role in trump's campaign to amplify the big lies about voter fraud. trump and clark were said to have been in contact in the days before the january 6th attack. and he is said to have pushed trump's claims in the department of justice and clashed with higher-ups who resisted. the letter says, the select committee's investigation has revealed credible evidence, and the president considered installing you as acting attorney general. the man who was almost pushed out of that acting attorney general job, then acting attorney general jeff rosen gave his side of the story in a closed-door interview with the committee. this was the 19th subpoena, as the biden white house said it would not assert executive privilege to keep them from seeing trump's documents. we're hours away from the first deadline. ste
