jose is working to clear what's left of a homeless encampment at columbus park, ktvu. james tauruses live from that park hearing from city officials and residents who say they're worried about what happens next, james andre, the city of san jose spent the last month clearing out as many people as they could from this area park here you can see a number of the rvs, trucks, suvs, cars that are all left behind what they were hoping today would be the day that they could focus on just buying and towing some of these cars and trucks that are all still here. cern coming from city officials. the park is in the direct path of planes landing at mineta san jose airport. they also worry about encampments starting out of control fires, a san jose parks rex and neighborhood services department says they are working to notify residents about why they have to move while also offering them temporary options for places to live. but some people i've spoke to this morning who have had those conversations with the city say they have no faith in their promises. there ain't no place to go. parking and everything. they're all filled. yeah. so. i don't know. i'm just going to stay here until they make me move, i guess. like eve

jose. good morning, mayor. could be with you, andre.nce we last spoke to you last month about the subject of pedestrian safety after an eight year old was killed, walking to school, there have been two more pedestrian deaths, bringing the total number 28 have city leaders come up with any ideas that can immediately address the issue of potentially nets. well yes. first you know, it starts with investing resources and understanding where the deaths are happening, where they're serious injuries are most likely to happen. what we've learned as we understand more about this horrible increase, not just here in san jose, but we've seen a huge spike nationally and we're seeing response. certainly from washington, see, because every big city has seen this challenge. what we know is a disproportionate number of these deaths and serious injuries are happening at nighttime. so we've been investing in upgrading our lighting. 68,000 streetlights now have been upgraded from sodium to led brighter white light, which will help with pedestrians and driv
