chris yeah sure. so just quickly highlight three things which are several solutions we should be looking to, but i'm highlighting these three in particular because they with each other in a way to show how we can actually get to sustainable change. so one, the history has shown that social have been the leading sort of driver of constitutional change. so we look at abolitionist movement, right that long preexisted the point when we got to the 13th amendment that outlawed slavery immediately and universally right the movements for suffrage whether it's black suffrage or women's suffrage that was very much part of a movement. right? women in several states were trying to the right to vote, but they were. and it actually continued push at the national level to get the 19th amendment secured. the movement for temperance. we ended up getting the prohibition amendment, the 18th amendment ill fated ill probably not the best example things but it did have a really long sustainable temperance movement was driv

i'm chris hayes. and the last hour, president biden gave a primetime address on the threats to american democracy. he -- the sight of the insurrection. this, let's than a week out from the midterm elections. it's not all surprising he decided to give the speech, considering the headlines we're seeing all across the country. with candidates endangering or outright rejecting fear -- free and fair elections. and arizona, and a case we've been color fearing closely, the case of poll stalkers. these are people who've been staking out ballot drop boxes under the guise of preventing widespread voter fraud, which of course does not exist, based on prosperous conspiracy theories but the sight of that fraud or the ballot drop boxes, and you see them loitering around those boxes, armed, wearing tactical gear -- might make some voters feel a little intimidated when you roll up to drop off your vote and there's someone there with a gun in a vast. last night, a trump appointed judge issued a restraining order again

i'm chris hayes. well, today is the deadline for all 15 counties in the state of arizona to certify the results of this month's election. we know from 2020 that election really ends when the votes are certified, not when the call is made by a news organization. and this election, in arizona, was a brutal one for arizona republicans, who did not win any of the four, highly contested statewide races. not for senate, nor for governor, nor for secretary of state, or it looks like, attorney general. now, that ag race is the only one of the four that is still too close to call, but democratic chris mazes leading by just about 500 votes. now since the margin is less than half a percentage point, it will go to an automatic recount under arizona law, that is set to begin next month. arizona probably had the most aggressive group of pro, big lie election deniers on the ballot than any contested state this year. that includes blake masters, who's the senate candidate, and kari lake who was the gubernatorial cand
