mayor daniel lurie says he supports larson's donation. the police commission, though, still has to approve the proposed gift. and if approved, san francisco's supervisors would then have the final say. there are police issues in oakland, 200 more officers. that's the gap that opd needs to fill. according to a new report, the city of oakland hired an outside firm to examine oakland police staffing, response times and success rates for solving criminal investigations. the city council reviewed that independent report last night. it found the police force is short 200 officers with 678 sworn officers currently in the department. the city council agreed to accept the findings, but it's not yet clear what action it can take, with the city's budget proposal still pending. that proposal includes funding to boost opd up to 700 officers. ifif that' approved later this month, it would still be short of the 877 officers recommended in this report. in san francisco, city workers rallied outside city hall, pushing back on mayor lauri's budget proposal
