i'm john jack, ktvu, fox two news. >> the marine mammal center and cal academy say that 21 whales have been found dead here in the san francisco bay region so far this year. last month alone, 12 dead whales were stranded on bay area shorelines, including in san francisco, berkeley, marin county and on the san mateo coast. overall. marine biologists say there have been an unusually high number of whale sightings as well in the bay this year, with 33 whales spotted compared to just six last year. 18 of the dead whales were gray whales, two were baleen whales and one minke whale was also found dead. the cause of six of the gray whale deaths was suspected. boat strikes. the spring ski season is coming to a close at mammoth mountain, and this weekend is the last time that visitors can shred the slopes. the resort is wrapping up the season this year. on sunday, there will be free goodies, giveaways and end of season party. for more on what to expect earlier on ktvu, we spoke with joanie lynch, the vp of marketing and sales of their mammoth resorts. >> we have three chairlifts open with terra

i'm john jack, ktvu, fox two news. >> in san francisco. fire crews have spent most of the day monitoring and investigating an early morning fire, which left five homes uninhabitable in the city's inner richmond neighborhood. the fire broke out around 2:00 in the morning in a row of three story homes along fifth avenue between anza and balboa streets. this fire did go to four alarms, prompting the response of more than 140 firefighters. it displaced 35 people. everyone in the building got out safely, but one firefighter suffered minor injuries. >> our rescue companies arrived on scene and they do a primary search and a secondary search, meaning that they crawl on their bellies through all the fire and all the heat without the protection of water, searching every single room. >> the fire department says the people who were forced from their homes are getting help from the red cross tonight and city services. today, demonstrators protested actions by ice agents in the south bay this week, including the arrests and removal of some undocumented

ktvu john jack live near livermore, where the power is out to some. but first we get right to our chief meteorologist, mark tamayo. and a check of those current conditions tonight. mark. >> hi there. mike. yeah, the wind is definitely picked up today. we're not seeing those really strong offshore winds. we typically link up with extreme fire danger, but still elevated fire danger today across the bay area. we do not have any red flag fire warnings, but still those when the winds have been picking up sfo 51 miles an hour today with a max gust. fairfield 43 oakland airport up to 40 miles an hour. so as i mentioned, we do have elevated fire danger across the bay area with these onshore winds. and that's key. the onshore wind keeps those moisture levels up a bit. so as a result, kind of that's why the weather service is holding back on the red flag fire warning, at least in the short term. so elevated fire danger, gusty winds, relative humidity. eventually, especially by saturday around 15 to 25%. now into your saturday forecast, we see a wind shift. we'l
