our katie nielsen spoke with a retired marine colonel about the concern he has about troops being asked to hit the streets in l.a.. >>>>when i was with him, we were at camp pendleton. retired marine corps colonel brendan kearney was once an officer with the second battalion, seventh marines, the same unit that has orders to deploy to los angeles if needed. a mixture this pride and regret. regret that we even have to face a situation as a nation. i'm proud of those marines. they're no different than the marines that i served with over, you know, 50 years ago. he said. during his time in the service, he can only remember a handful of times when active duty marines were called upon to deploy within the u.s., and only once where they were not on federal property. and that was during the rodney king riots. in 1992. during the riots in southern california. marines from camp pendleton, they got in their vehicles and drove up into l.a. and had to participate in that. the conflagration that was going on then. right now, 4000 california national guard troops and 700 active duty marines have been
