good morning to you there, marcus. well, critics say that san jose mayor matt mahan proposal to allow law enforcement to not only police, but the sheriff's office to arrest the unhoused who refuse shelter, just further criminalizes homelessness. later today, the san jose city council is expected to vote on whether or not to approve the mayor's responsibility to shelter initiative, which, if approved, would allow for the arrest or hospitalization of people on the street who refuse offers of shelter three times over an 18 month period. it would also expand outreach efforts and create a new police unit. to enforce this policy. the police and fire unions have all voiced their support for the bill. the president of san jose firefighters local 230 told us they deal with many fires, thousands of fires each year caused by people living on the streets. now, as i mentioned, critics have blasted the plan. not only do they say that it criminalizes homelessness, they claim that the city lacks enough shelter beds to house these peop

good morning to you marcus and laura. so as we have reported, the pursuit policies are different for the chp and the oakland police when they are on oakland city streets. the biggest difference? the maximum speed. the family of marvin boomer is now suing the chp, blaming the crash that killed that castlemont teacher on the chp pursuit of a teenage driver. shortly after thehp called off their pursuit, eric hernandez garcia lost control and hit a tree and a fire hydrant. that fire hydrant hit boomer, killing him and injuring his girlfriend. so at 11:00 this morning at 430 this afternoon, we will see community members calling for the chp to abide by the oakland police pursuit policy. members of the anti-police terror project are organizing and will be joined by other community activists who have been pressuring the opd to keep their policy as is. now, as you know, the chp is on oakland city streets to saturate high crime areas. but again, they do not have to abide by that opd pursuit policy that went into effect in 2022. und

good morning, marcus and laura.re talking about more full timemployees and more stations that are staffed year round. we're talking about cal fire here for several months out of the year. you look at this video. this is the cal fire station on mount hamilton in the hills above east san jose. it goes dark for several months of the year because it's a so-called schedule b station, which is historically shut down during the winter months because there's not enough money to keep it staffed. well, california state senator dave cortese, he will direct millions of dollars starting in july, which starts tomorrow, a two cal fire. so those schedule b's can stay open year round. we'll also have money that will allow them to move cal fire to move roughly 3000 personnel from part time to full time status come too soon. we're already seeing a lot of vegetation fires in this area that can quickly blow up with a little bit of wind. meanwhile, cal fire crews from santa cruz and san mateo are on the way down south to southern califor
