organizers are hoping to set up a seven mile human chain stretching from palo alto to sunnyvale. nbc bay area's robert honda explains how and why they chose this type of demonstration. well, organizers for this weekend's seven mile human chain protest along el camino real began planning the event a couple of months ago, with flag day more of the target date than the d.c. military parade, but now they say they're happy. the way it's turning out, it could get very crowded here on the peninsula along el camino real, the so-called seven by 7000 protest is designed to have 7000 people or more sitting, standing or marching here to protest trump administration policies. people we talked to were astounded by the ambitious goal. that sounds pretty crazy. and yeah, i think i'll be able to join for the good cause, you know, sounds like a good thing to do. organizers include former assembly member and speaker pro tem sally lieber. seven miles was picked because that's the distance between a tesla showroom in sunnyvale and one in palo alto. 7000 participants was not a random number. this was

an investigation is underway tonight after a fire destroys a palo alto home. firefighters say just after nine. that's what they faced when they raced to stockton place, finding a home, a garage and a truck all engulfed in flames. crews faced several challenges putting the fire out, including fuel leaking from the truck, which drove flames into the road. witnesses described some dicey moments. i was watering my front garden here and all of a sudden i heard explosions. and then i looked down the street and next thing you know, there's flames shooting out of the black smoke and everything. fire crews moved fast and put the fire out so it didn't spread to other homes. investigators say the person who lives in the burned out home escaped, but a dozen cats and dogs did not. they all died. it is not clear what ignited that fire. fans of a popular mexican band are upset and angry tonight that tomorrow's performance in napa is canceled. the band grupo firme announced last night that they cannot appear sunday at la honda festival because they can't get in the country. t

the palo alto fire department is investigating the cause of a huge fire that destroyed a house. take a look at this. fire crews battled flames that engulfed this truck. you see here a garage and a home on stockton place yesterday morning. a neighbor says he saw smoke and smelled gasoline on the driveway before the flames quickly spread. >> all of a sudden, i heard explosions. and then i looked down the street and next thing you know, there's flames shooting out of the black smoke and everything. >> the publication, palo alto online reports nobody was inside the home at the time, but the homeowner fears up to 12 animals died in that fire, including several kittens at the home. as a part of a fostering program. well, school's out for the summer in the oakland unified school district, but the school board still has homework to do. with contract negotiations set to start for the new interim superintendent. they were selected in a special election on friday after superintendent kyla johnson trammell was ousted back in april. here's abc seven news reporter anser hassan. >> the oakland

pleasanton headed for 79 degrees in palo alto. it will be 77, but we're staying in the 50s in half moon bay today and in san francisco. look for those highs in the mid 60s for later this afternoon. and 79 in santa rosa, ukiah. we're back in the 90s today and it will be 77 in napa. as we're getting out on the roads this morning, i wanted to show you the commute, get you caught up as we take a look at a lot of green sensors for the south bay, that means that even though it's usually a day where we have a heavier volume of traffic, it's tuesday. we're not seeing it yet picking up, but some of these incidents popping up may slow things down. we are seeing the slowdown in a couple of accidents as you head toward the richmond san rafael bridge. and then we're also seeing some of those incidents as you're heading over toward the east bay. we're still been we've still been tracking the slowdown heading through 680. but now in concord, we have a new accident that has popped up. this is going southbound as you're cutting over from 242, and
