many of the suspects appear to live within blocks of each other in southeast washington. repeat offenders released into the community to commit more crimes. our audrey barnes is here with more on this story. audrey. >> we are talking about the murder of jordan howell, the drive by shooting on south capital street and the murder 14 miles away of brian betts. when police went out to round up suspects, they headed to the same neighborhood in southeast washington. a link that is being investigated by dc's attorney general. >> when officers swarmed into the apartment complex on 3rd street, looking for suspects in the brian betts murder, another high profile crime was on their minds, too. >> about south capital, the murders. i know all of them. >> jordan howell killed on alabama avenue southeast march 22. march 30, the south capital street drive by claims four lives. three weeks later, principal brian betts stolen car recovered in the 3900 block of 4th street southeast. suspects disappear into the community. three murders, eight young men arrested with one thing in common. >> l

. >> reporter: dc police were called to the 4200 block of 4th street in southeast washington around 4:00 p.m. yesterday after reports that a man had fallen from the window. when they arrived at the scene they found a special needs boy, age 2 o had fallen or been pushed through a window. they found the body of the boy's mother inside the same apartment. >> the body appears to have been here at least for a few days. so right now we are investigating this as if it were a homicide but we do not have a cause or a manner of death yet so we are investigating. >> reporter: the woman's son survived the fall but suffered serious injury and is being treated at a local hospital. they homed a cascade park complex for clues on thursday evening, at one point taking evidence from nearby dumpsters but police have not confirmed a connection between the mother's death and the son's fall. neighbors describe the mother son team as inseparable. he had special needs and she took care of them. we will have a live report at 5:30. >>> two men are in custody in connection with a drug bust in fairfax county. 130

this happened along fourth street in southeast washington. what makes this case even more mysterious that is officers arrived to find a man who had tumbled out of a window at that apartment. roz plater picks up the details. >> reporter: investigators sealed off a large section of the cascade park apartment complex. they even searched trash dumpsters for evidence after police found a woman dead in an apartment here and believe she may have been killed. >> i think it is horrible. i think it's horrible, you know. i think it's horrible. >> it's not safe. i'm scared for my grandmother. she is 79 years old. >> reporter: pair medicine ins answered a call for help about 3:45 in the afternoon and arrived to find a young man who either fell or was pushed from an upstairs window. he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. police aren't saying if that incident is connected to the woman's body they found. >> that body does appear to have been here for at least a few days so right now we are investigating this as if it were a homicide but we do no

that shooting happened on a u 2 bus at the corner of 18th and minnesota in southeast washington just after 5:00, the 17-year-old victim was hit in the wrist and in the side. he remains hospitalized. nobody else on the bus was injured. witnesses say the gunman got off and ran off, police are still looking for him tonight. >> a youth soccer coach is in trouble tonight, after he was arrested for assaulting a refer referee. it happened in virginia, when the coach got upset about a free kick awarded in a soccer game for 10-year-olds. the referee was in the seats. >> he screamed, you imbow sil and he charged the field. the kid put his hand up to get between him and the ref, and he bowled that child over, went after the other one, grabbed him by his shirt about this area, it looked like his hand was in his face. >> reporter: the parent describing the interaction, the players 10-year-old boys. the coach is 34. jason atkins of fredericksburg is charged with two counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property for his alleged actions for the second referee. >> decided to

the victim was found dead in her home on fourth street southeast. it's believed she's been dead for several days now. authorities were called to the scene after one of her mentally disabled sons was seen jumping from a second-story window. derrick ward joins us live from d.c. superior court with dalts on this. >> reporter: there have been some significant developments in that and they have brought us here to d.c. superior court. police yesterday arrested 24-year-old christopher martin. he's due to be arraigned here on second-degree murder charges. it is believed that martin is another son of the victim. police were called to the scene at that apartment building at the 4200 block of southeast street. police were able to talk to the person that went out the window. police entered the apartment and found the body of the woman. she hasn't been positively identified yet nor has the cause of death been publicly released. however, police investigating that case did develop a person of interest. that person has turned out to be christopher martin, who is be
