now there were some problems on cal train yesterday. that's when the heat was so hot it softened the cal train tracks and slowed the trains down from its top speed of 79 miles an hour to a slower 50 to 60 miles per hour. commuters this morning say they certainly noticed the delay yesterday but say all things considered it wasn't too bad. >> we were only about 15 minutes late at the very most. >> reporter: are you worried today? >> no. i don't have a car. i have to roll with it no matter what. that's right. >> reporter: bart had its own issues yesterday. control rooms like this one in dublin overheated. boxes along the side of the track that monitor train movements overheated. and then 20 to 30 cars had air conditioners to break down. all causing problems and delays for the system. i talked to the spokesman saying there have literally been an army of crews overnight to fix the problems. says commuters should see fewer problems today but can't guarantee there won't be any problems if it heats up as expected again. 95 degrees appears to be

if you take cal train or bart you might want to get on the trains early. so far the systems are reporting no problems. it's relatively cool. we'll talk to steve about the actual temperature. but right now the roads and the systems are doing well. in fact, let's go ke a look at some of these roads. some people don't like to drive when it's so hot so they might get on the road early. this is a look at interstate 890 and traffic continues to look good to the bay bridge toll plaza. no major problems getting into san francisco. westbound bay bridge traffic is looking good. the road work they had on the upper deck of the bay bridge should be gone in just a few moments. this is a live look at 280 in san jose northbound and southbound. the traffic continues to look very nice as we check with chp wires. not looking at anything in the south bay to report when it comes to road work or any sort of delays. so we're starting off well on northbound 280 and on northbound 101. at 5:08 here's steve. >>> thank you. a very mild start to the morning. a lot of 60s to 70 degrees

cal fire tells us it is spread across 150 acres. the fire broke out at 4 p.m. in the foothills east of mount diablo south of clayton. take a live picture of the scene. it's a relatively remote and rugged area, mostly grassland and california oaks. however, there are some oaks and outbuildings in the area that could be threatened. at this point, no structures have burned, and there are no evacuation orders in place, but still cal fire says the blaze is burning out of control right now. air tankers and helicopters are fighting the fire as well as 600 firefighters on the ground. now, there is one piece of good news for the fire crews >>> fire crews are being stationed at their homes in danger. an evacuation center has been set up at a local school. so far, the cause is unknown. >>> the national weather service has a heat advisory in effect in the bay area until 8 p.m. tonight. in please aboutton student athletes took frequent breaks to cool down during this morning's football practice. heat records broken all across the bay area, including san rafael, which hit 10
