we are here at the fremont b.a.r.t. station, but this is not the only place where the commute could be cooked, so to speak, by that triple digit heat. here at the b.a.r.t. station, the problem was overheated computers. the air-conditioning units that are supposed to keep the computers nice and cool, well, they shut down and that forced the agency to switch trains into manual mode. and when that happens, the trains go about 25 miles an hour instead of 75 miles an hour. you can imagine the backup there. on caltrain, trains were slowed too, but for a different reason. that's because when it's this hot, caltrain slows the trains down so they don't warp the track as they drive on by. on ac transit, passengers were just sticky and steamed. we talked with a dozen passengers this morning, most were delayed for about ten minutes or so, but we did find one who had an hour and a half late commute getting from downtown san francisco to fremont. >> i mean win just figured it was a train broke down. >> reporter: so you just kind of c

we've seen a fremont officer arrive in the last hour and a half. he didn't want to talk. this is a difficult time for the police d and family. young needed at least 60-pints of blood and it's become clear to the road that recovery will apparently be long. but this -- this community has responded. dozens of people donated blood in young's name. most did what they could. >> when we needed support when we lost one of our officers, just a short time ago, fremont was one of the first agencies knocking on the door to help. >> reporter: this all happened friday afternoon when young and the task force tried to arrest andrew barrientos on domestic charges. police fired. police say he's a suspected gang member. sources say since his arrest on saturday night. he's confessed to the shooting. what's still unclear is when he will be headed back to the bay area. we have been talking to jail officials in san diego county this morning. they say they don't have a set time but certainly people have said he could be back as soon as today. we're gonna continue to check on that. if we get any,

plans are being made this morning to bring the man arrested for shooting a fremont police officer back here to the bay area to face charges. andrew barantos was arrested yesterday just a few feet from the mexican border in connection with friday's shooting. he was captured 15 feet from the border crossing. abc 7's amy hollyfield has more now from the oakland police department. >> the 20-year-old and accomplice were at a parking lot at the last u.s. exit when a san diego police sergeant spotted their car. >> the suspect that was inside the vehicle, the passenger seat, identified himself as being a suspect in the shooting of the officer in oakland. he was armed. he had a pistol in his waist band that was loaded. both the driver and the suspect surrendered peaceably. >> police all over the state and especially at the border were looking for the known gang member. >> we asked the border patrol as well as the san diego police department to shut the border down because we felt he was possibly heading in that direction. >> oakland police and several other agencies up here in the bay area gath

here at the fremont b.a.r.t. station, we're hearing from passengers that the delays were about ten minutes for most of them. the problem was that riders were stuck when the b.a.r.t. train control rooms overheated because of an air-conditioning problem. that put the trains into manual mode and that means driving those trains at 25 miles an hour instead of 75 miles an hour. so you can imagine the backups there. on caltrain, the trains were slow as well, but for a different reason. there, because if temperatures are this hot, caltrain slows down the train so they don't warp the tracks as they're passing by. on ac transit, passengers were just hot and sticky. though today is expected to be a full degrees cooler, commuters are expecting more of the same, and that's why one commuter tells us he will take b.a.r.t. from fremont to daly city, but he'll carpool with a friend this evening. >> i think, like myself, a lot of other people probably feel the same way. you know, they would rather find a much cooler route. you kno
