peter alexander joins us now from manchester, connecticut. peter? >> reporter: lester, good evening to you. that staggering death toll stands at nine this evening, including the shooter, and at least two people are still recovering from their injuries. police are keeping reporters away from the crime scene. for this small connecticut community, the news was shocking. >> we've had a tragedy in the state this morning. >> reporter: the shooting happened just after 7:00 this morning, a family-owned beer and wine manufacturer. 34-year-old omar thornton had just finished a disciplinary hearing with company management. >> at the conclusion of that interview, he was given an option to either resign or be terminated. he was being escorted from the building when the shots rang out. >> reporter: he saved the last shot from his handgun for himself. a teamsters official described thornton as a recent hire. >> it couldn't have happened at a worse time of day, have you the third shift going off, the first shift coming on, the office staff there, the sales staff th

nbc's peter alexander has the latest. peter, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you. ose two girls, are improving at the hospital this morning. their parents are by their side. as for their aunt, she had no criminal history this morning she is charged with two counts of felony assault. they are haunting new details about two young girls terrifying night in their own home. the sisters, 7 and 9 years old, were found in the kitchen saturday night cautious, speaking to police both of them still bleeding. >> the scene was horrendous from what the officers told me. it was quite horrible. >> reporter: the girls had had survived multiple stab wounds. their attacker -- their aunt, police say, 39-year-old lisa turkki who had been left home to babysit her nieces while the parents attend add concert just minutes away. the couple called to the box office during intermission. turkki was arrested standing in the front yard after calling 911. that tape isn't being released. she had a cut to her leg that detectives suspect was self-inflicted. >> there were two kitchen knifes that have

nbc's peter alexander now joins us with the latest on this story. peter, good morning. >> reporter: ann, good morning to you. i think it's safe to say this was a shock to nobody. pet tiger woods and his ex-wife in a court hearing that lasted no longer than ten minutes. reportedly not saying a word to each other. theirs seemed like a fairy tale marriage pupg waited on countless 18 greens. tiger and elin's romance was officially extinguished in a florida courthouse with elin reportedly accompanied by a handful of lawyers, one of them her identical twin sister, the former couple released a joint statement saying we are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. in these newly filed divorce documents the marriage between tiger, whose legal name is eldrick woods, and elin, is described as irretrievably broken. the judge restored elin's maiden name, elin nordegren, and they agreed to share parenting of their two children, 3-year-old sam and 18-month-old charlie with both mom and dad also completing parenting classes
