and mark quinn is producer and anchor of "the big picture" on south carolina's e.t.v. let me get you all in here first on the foreclosure problem and today's report. karen kasler, you start. what are you seeing in your area? >> well, this this report, the realty track report, 13,5111 foreclosures and filings in ohio in july. that's a 27% increase over june. and one in 376 ohio homeowners received a foreclosure notice in july. what i couldn't believe, though, in this information was a 68% increase in the amount of sheriff sales in ohio. so ohio's housing problems, we've been in the top five or top ten for years. it's obviously stale problem. >> brown: mark quinn, let's go to columbia, south carolina. what are you seeing? >> this is something just emerging in the headlines. we did not have a huge housing boom like states like florida and nevada and california so we didn't have a huge housing bust. but as unemployment has continued to drag on here over the last two years now, two years into the great recession, we're seeing a lot of people with un'm moment benefits expire

but i would point out that georgia, texas, louisiana, and south carolina have all stepped up to the bar to get their stimulous funds after a lot of talk that they would not receive it and on the mandate, there is a mandate currently in effect in massachusetts that isn't being challenged constitutionally and barack obama did not run on the mandate when he ran for president. in fact he was opposed to it and howard dean who was governor of vermont, they have health reform there. they don't need the mandate. it doesn't mean the end of obama care and it leaves us with the dilemma of when the guy refuses to buy healthcare insurance shows up at the emergency room, what do you do with him? i think they'll have to have an insurance kiosk in the hospital and sign on the bottom line because you know, they are free loaders. i thought conservatives wanted to get free loaders off the welfare road. >> you thought the states are spineless and don't have the strength of their own conviction? >> i think their leaders and legislatures came to their senses and realized they could use these government funds

there's a very unusual senate race going on in south carolina right now. republican named jim demint is being challenged by a guy no one ever heard of. his name is alvin greene. alvin greene is unemployed. he was discharged from the army. he's never held office before. he appears to be just slightly smarter than a rock. yet somehow they won the democratic nomination. people think he run because his name, alvin greene, was the first name on the ballot and people just checked it off. on friday, he was indicted on two felony charges. one of them for allegedly showing pornography to a teenager. on friday, a local reporter in charlotte went to alvin greene's house to ask him about this. and here's how that went. >> alvin greene didn't feel much like talking. hours earlier, a grand jury indicted him on a felony charge of showing this co-ed, camille mccoy, obscene photos on a computer at the university of south carolina. can i just ask if you're going to keep -- are you going to stay in the race? >> yes, yes, yes. >> you are? how can you do that? >> go away. go a
