this is a great question from winnie in catonsville. when you create a financial plan, how do you incorporate the possibility of unemployment? i think this is a great question. >> you know, for this period of time, especially what we've been through over the course of the last two years, we certainly take this question much more seriously than maybe three or four years ago. as we're creating the financial plan there, are many things we traditionally plan for, retirement, education, but what we also put into place is a safety valve for the possibility of a layoff or unemployment. this is the basics of how it'd work. i'll give you three steps that are probably most important. number one, we've said this before, creating an emergency fund. let's look at this as an emergency fund on steroids in this environment because typically the three or six months of surplus cash on hand, we think that really needs to be nine or twelve at this point. the reason for that, it's more difficult to get a job right now. make sure you have expenses covered. i
