joce. >> thanks wyatt. our other top stories, a baltimore county couple is locked up after police say they severely assaulted a woman and locked her in the bathroom of their reisterstown home for a year. police say the 22-year-old woman was repeatedly beaten and burned with cigarettes when she tried to call for help. jermaine smith bay and stacey king are being held on charges of attempted murder, assault and false imprisonment. they are finished counting those absentee ballots and greg bernstein has widened his lead over patricia jess a me in the race for state attorney. there are more than 1700 provisional ballots out there. judges will side whether to accept each ballot. that process won't start until next wednesday. >>> a fun filled day almost turned tragic at the north arundel aqualityic center. but for the second time in as many months quick thinking lifeguards put their training to the test to save a life. don harrison has that story. >> reporter: a near tragic incident occurred for the second time i

abc 2 news joce sterman now is here to explain. joce. >> reporter: so far this year doctors, patients and staff members at more than a half dozen u.s. hospitals have dealt with this same situation we saw today at hopkins, all of them have experienced shootings either inside patient rooms or just outside the doors. cleveland's hillcrest hospital has more experience than anyone with this chaotic and tragic situation. their facility handled two shootings over the summer within weeks of each other. one of them, a murder/suicide. knoxville has also seen this kind of tragedy. the park west medical center was the scene of a murder/suicide last april. and let's take a look at this astounding list. all of these hospitals have dealt with shootings this year starting with memphis back in february. winter haven, florida, and long island, new york, and also jacksonville, las vegas and baton rouge. while some of these shootings did happen inside of the hospital about half took place in the parking lots and areas outside the doors. as for securit

abc 2 news and joce sterman is live in rosedale. how is it going out there. >> you know rosy, right now we're experiencing a bit of a call. that was not the situation earlier today. we've got some ominous clouds over here heading over by 695. but this was a reel problem spot here on poe las key highway, they shut this section of the road down today for quite a stretch because of some serious flooding. now here is the reason why. obviously this is a downhill stretch. if you're coming up from the other side of route 40 the other side of baltimore that's a downhill stretch too. all the water as it rained really intensely sort of collected in that little valley there, there was at one point a section where some rescue workers had to come out. we want to show you some of the video we shot. there was a swift water rescue team that came out earlier today. they were called out, got the boat in the flood water, luckily though they didn't have to use it which was a good thing. that water was still a reel problem anded unfortunately that team

joce nailed it earlier. it was muggy out early this morning but now you can see the high humidity levels over on the eastern shore. but western and central maryland now seeing that drier air work in. wish we could see that dry air would stick around a few days. it looks like 24 hours of drier air and rain-free conditions. although maybe just a renegade shower to the west. most of the rain is now just shore, but as we check the overall trend weatherwise, briefly drier air moving in but, as we look at the overall pattern, this dry air will work in only for about 24 hours before yet another storm spins up down in the carolinas. and you can see that here in the forecast model. watch as we work into the tomorrow afternoon. we're dry through the day. this storm really begins to get its act together tomorrow night. as we go into wednesday night into early thursday very heavy rain possible. overnight tomorrow night. and especially early on in the day thursday. this rain could come down pretty heavy especially baltim

jess joce sterman takes a look at why this kind of incident isn't as unusual as you would think? the scene at johns hopkins almost unimaginable to people here in baltimore as a shooter opens fire within the hospital walls. but unfortunately at hospitals around the country this kind of incident is very reel. so far this year, more than a half dozen hospitals have experienced shootings either within patient rooms or just beyond the doors outside. take a look at this video from cleveland where they dealt with two shootings at hillcrest hospital in the month of july. in one a husband gunned down his wife who was a patient. in another a man took his own life in the parking lot. knoxville has also had its own brush with dangers. this is the scene of a shooting when a gun man shot and killed a woman and two others before turning the gun on himself. but these facilities are not alone. in addition to cleveland and knoxville hospitals in winter happy florida, jacksonville, long island, new york, las vegas and baton rouge have all dealt with shootings this year. with the patients and staff
