i was at the university of nevada last week. i met a girl who said the students could not be here if it were not for the millennium scholarships. half of them probably would not be in school. we need to create economic opportunities for our people. we also need to find it so that people can create opportunities for themselves so they can work and live their dreams. >> i have really enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the chancellor of the university. i have met with the presidents. i am a proud graduate of unr. i think our universities are important to the diversification of our economy and the future of our state. i need to remind my opponent that university employees are state employees. as part of your budget plan that was released three days ago, it includes a continuation of the furlough. that reduces the funding for the university. i do not want to dwell on that. i want to dwell on the solution. as i met with the chancellor and the presidents of the university, they would like to have the ability to maintain their tuition

we want to zero in on nevada. tell us which of the counties does the candidate have to win in order to win that senate seat? >> with he wiell, nevada is the that is out in the desert and the decounty there is clark county and that includes las vegas and searchlight and 70% of the population. higher average in the state, unemployment in the nation. highest by far foreclosure rates in the nation. and that's really where sharron angle has to get across and it will be a test of this decentralized tea party movement which is not just one place political reporters can't call headquarters and get the boss of this. it's lots of people working in tandem with each other, making contact through new media. can they be effective in a major metro area like las vegas with nearly 2 million people? out there in the desert. that's the question. she got 38% of the vote in the primary 48% state wide. she's not from las vegas, that's the big challenge for her. >> harry reid's been in close races before. this is not new to him. let's g

we want to move to nevada now. ian, this is a race that is getting attention, has been getting enormous attention for months now. you have the senate majority leader harry reid running against a challenger tea party member, shar ron angle. what's the state of that one? >> well, in the spring it looked like senator harry reid was a dead man walking. but as soon as sharon angle won the primary, she was out of money. she spent two months painting her as probably the most extreme candidate that could have won. it seems to have succeeded. he's wrestled it back to a statistical dead heat in the last couple of months. it looks as if her negatives are almost as high as his. in a recent poll, some 66% of would-be republican voters said they'd rather have some other republican candidate. she's in real trouble. she has basically brought forward her media strategy. we're getting inundated with anti-harry reid ads. it's all his fault. it's time to change. she's really trying to stop the bleeding here from the republicans and in
