because of an early-morning fire in north baltimore, -- the cause of an early-morning fire in north baltimore is still under investigation tonight. six family members were inside at the time. all of them survived. but the 67-year-old grandmother is in a hospital. she heard her leg jumping and of a two-story window -- hurt her leg jumping out of a two-story window. that fire left six family pets dead. the cause is under investigation. >> the maryland spca is appalled to learn a man charged with animal abuse had been court appointed to volunteer at the shelter. he is accused of beating a job with a pipe in early august. the dog was severely beaten and eventually euthanize. the court told him they would drop its case if he stayed out of trouble and perform 50 hours of community service at the spca. the application was immediately denied. >> that this application -- with recommendation would not have been made if this person had been working with children. >> the spca was never consulted about the recommendation. there is no word tonight on how his case will move forward. >> city cops are -- are

moderate rain across north baltimore county and some areas may pick up maybe a quarter of an inch. in fact, lower section of delaware, probably won't see much more than a trace of rain. that's where we're seeing the heaviest. take a look at temperatures, down to the south still pretty warm, temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. 76 at the beach. we dropped to the upper 60s. upper 50s to the west. our winds beginning to shift more to the west, northwest. that will continue tomorrow. it will bring in more dry air, so even though we gain rain tonight, the bulk of the next several days will be sunny and very dry. heaviest rain across pennsylvania and new york. you can see it's cutting off to the west. don't expect a lot of rain. it may rain from 9 to 10:00 and there's a chance of a brief shower, perhaps a thundershower from that little line across eastern ohio. behind that, that's where the really dry air moves. pleasant conditions come up. really very nice weather. lots of sunshine and it will be dry. not great for your allergies. back in the tropics, igor has dropped to a category thr

it did rain mostly north of baltimore. temperatures vary summer-like. 71 in annapolis. 74 degrees downtown at the maryland science center. skies are basically cleared except for a few patchy clouds. there is a big bright full mon outside. we should stay dry into the early afternoon hours. a system will give us another chance for rain this friday night and into saturday morning. the same front that came through yesterday stalled just to our north across the pennsylvania line. i think the atmosphere will be unstable enough that we could see a few thunderstorms pop up in the heat of the afternoon. maybe late in the day, you could see another thunderstorm drifted by. near 90 again today. the average high temperature is 76. partly cloudy tonight. the temperatures will drop back into the 60's to around 70 in the city. i think friday will be the hottest day this week. the temperatures will push into the low to mid 90's on friday. this front will come through friday night and into saturday morning and that should cool things off.
