claudine wong is on the scene. the last time we checked in with you, we saw the wreckage running away. what's happening now? >> reporter: yes. the vehicles have been taken away. i want to show you a look at the webster tube. caltrans is busy cleaning up right now. we're just minutes away after what's been getting this -- getting this accident investigate and cleaned up. it all started after midnight. it was really a horrific scene. this is the tube that goes from oakland to alameda. three people involved in the crash. eight people total. it was an accident that sent really almost everyone to the hospital. one person with very, very serious injuries. this all started with the traffic stop. >> a two-officer police car pulled over a speeding vehicle that came out of the webster tub. the officers made initial contact with the driver and the other four passengers of the car. shortly after they made contact, the driver elected to flee. he drove away in his car at a  high rate of speed into the dirt lot. this was a deli

let's go live to ktvu reporter claudine wong who is on this breaking news. >> reporter: good morning, sal. we are on the side. you can see behind me, this crash that is making a mess. what you're looking at is a traverse behind that vehicle, however, are two more vehicles. this is a three-car accident that one vehicle you see was going the wrong way down the tube when this very, very serious accident happened. we had a couple of minutes to talk to alameda police before we got on. and they told me this started as a traffic stop. we're still trying to get more details and trying to get the conditions of the victims. this is a very serious crash. i can tell you when i was down there and looking at the other vehicle, it was not in shape. we are just getting into this. we are told this happened a little after midnight. so we are hours into this. but still a lot of questions. again, we're going to go down and talk more with police. if you are heading from oakland to alameda, the tube is closed. you will not be able to get through. you will have to go around to 23rd and get over that way. ob

claudine wong has more. >> i spoke with the man who saved this little girl. he's been very busy telling his story. he doesn't know this little girl or her family. but he says he watched the news and when he saw the truck pass through the neighborhood, he went after this. even the police chief calls the rescue of this 8-year-old girl a miracle of god. this story beats those odds and that is thanks to a man who not only watched the news but did something about it. now, the 24-year-old man came back into the neighborhood where the 8-year-old girl was abducted. that's when perez saw him. he saw pictures of the truck on tv. when it drove by, he took action. >> i was yelling at him, to get him off the road. first, i said, i need to talk to you and he said my truck is messing off. i need to leave. i didn't see the little girl at first and then she stuck her head out. >> reporter: the driver -- gonzalez was arrested 40 minutes later. neighbors say the little girl was scared but is obviously grateful to be home. the father is also expressing his gratitude. >> translat

ktvu's claudine wong joins us with more on the developing story. good morning, claudine. >> yes, we're at the high school, the fire happened just down the way from where we're standing at the school's cafeteria. an arson investigation is underway. at this point firefighters do believe this looks suspicious. want to show you video we took just minutes ago. this fire started about 1:30 this morning. just a little bit. firefighters got a call saying someone spotted flames coming from the back of the school. when they got here, they didn't see visible flames. they went in, put the fire out. when they got in, firefighters tell me they started seeing something suspicious. the fire did start, from what they believe, in the kitchen of this high school cafeteria. however, there was evidence someone had used a fire extinguisher, uh, some time during the night when the cafeteria was supposed to be locked up and empty. that leads them to believe that someone was in there and someone who wasn't supposed to be in there. what we know at this point was there was a

ktvu's claudine wong explains why the cause appears to be suspicious. >> reporter: as kids arrived at school this morning, they were met with this sight. the charred remains of what used to be the cafeteria's kitchen. he just keeps thinking about how much worse it could have been. >> a little bit, yeah. since it's right next to the band room. that's like my favorite place in school. >> reporter: firefighters say the 911 call came in just before 1:30 this morning when someone spotted flames shooting out of the building. the fire station is just three blocks away and firefighters say they got on scene quickly. it didn't take them long to get the fire out. they were able to contain the fire to the one building. and the damage is mostly in the kitchen where they believe the fire started. the damage to the kitchen area is significant. but it's what firefighters found in the dining room of this cafeteria that made them suspicious. take a look at the floor and you can see a powder. firefighters saythat powder is from fire extinguishers when they are used. we saw at least three fire extinguis

claudine wong is live. >> reporter: good morning. it's still unclear if we're dealing with some kind of ritual or prank. people want to track down whoever put the two human hearts in jars and buried them here at the holy cross catholic cemetery. it's a bit of a mystery this morning. the discovery was made on october 12th. a maintenance worker was out here when he saw the tops of two jars sticking out of the ground. he took a closer look that had him calling police. inside the jars were human hearts. each jar had a picture of a different couple pinned to the jar. the paper says candles and cigar butts nearby and the coroner found the hearts were embalmed. although there are no reports of bodies being dug out. so at this point police are just trying to track it all down. trying to figure out who did this. there are several crimes that could relate to digging up organs obviously. and theyst want to know who is behind it. the mystery does continue out here. live claudine wong. >>> watsonville police are asking for the public's health to

claudine wong spoke with him and joins us with more on the story. >> reporter: victor perez says the rescue and his confrontation with the kidnapper is all still sinking in the unemployed construction worker said he woke up yesterday to the news of the kidnapping and then just wanted to help. as he walked out of his house, the accuser kidnapper drove by and what perez did next saved this little girl. the rescue of this 8-year-old girl beat the odds and the statistics that said her story would end tragically. this little girl is home safe today because victor perez saw the story, saw the images of what police say were the images of the kidnapper's truck and walked out of his house at the same time. >> i stepped outside. we were talking about the incident and i saw the truck and took a second to see if it was the truck and i jumped in my truck and went after him. >> reporter: perez said he stopped gonzalez and talked to him but he said for just a moment, he thought he had had the wrong guy. >> i couldn't see the little girl yet or anything. when i pulled over, he was very polite. i sai

claudine wong tells us what commuters can expect to see as soon as tomorrow. >> reporter: construction on the new bay bridge for the most part has moved pretty steady. tomorrow morning, that changes. >> tomorrow. wednesday morning, around 4:00 we'll start mobilizing crews for a very long operation. >> reporter: the engineering portion of this project is pretty impressive. four sections of the bay bridge tower will be lifted in place starting form in a place that should stretch over the weekend. each section weighs 617 tons, or 1.2 million pounds, and stands over 107 feet tall. each piece will be erected as part of the suspension spans, single, 520-foot tall tower. this is just one more portion of the construction. but this happens to be happening in large part at the drivers passing by on the bay bridge. >> our main point today is this particular lift is the most visible one to traffic. this is probably gonna be the most visible one we do. we want to make motorists that this work is gonna be happening. >> reporter: what you won't see is also pretty interesting. craps showed us a full-s

ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong live on the scene with the very latest on the investigation. claudine. >> reporter: good morning, kraig. the search for the two suspects responsible for this terrifying ordeal continues this morning. we are at the intersection near where all of this happened. a family of 12 held up in a home invasion. it happened overnight. one of the victims told ktvu that a family member was actually outside the home smoking when the two suspects approached around 11:00 last night. the suspects who police say were wearing hoods over their heads forced the family member back into the house. one was carrying a silver revolver. one family member was apparently held at gunpoint while the suspects went through the house stealing cash and electronic equipment including a computer. there were actually 12 victims inside this house when all of this happened. they range in age from 3 years old to 70 years old. fortunately no one was hurt and the suspect sped away in the silver infinity. we don't have a more details description of the suspects for you right now. but we
